The About This Mac mod just changes the file that the About This Mac page reads so that the CPUID actually has a description instead of Unknown. Since the CPUID is changed in the kernel, the mod still happens but About This Mac no longer reads from that modified line; instead it reads from the line that says Core Solo. Hope that makes sense.

Here are some links on how to change the information yourself:

Bear Hunter I put mine in /Extra/Mini10vExt but I have it in S/L/E on my mini9 and it works there too.

Putting it in S/L/E:
Pro - New install of NBI won't remove the VoodooPowerMini kext
Con - S/L/E isn't Vanilla, possible (although very unlikely) conflict with a future system update

Putting it in /Extra/Minixxx (9 or 10v or A90 directory):
Pro - All modifications are in 1 place
Con - Gets moved to the /Extra.bak folder every time NBI is run and must be copied back to current /Extra/Minixxx directory along with remembering to run UpdateExtra after.

Mini2: Mini9, Black, 2G, 0.3 Webcam, Bluetooth, 32G RunCore, OS X/Win 7, internal PCI-e SHDC Reader
Mini3: Mini10v. Black, 2G, Webcam, 640G HD, OS X 10.5.8/Win 7/Ubuntu [Hibernate w/NBI 0.8.3 RC4]

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. I went ahead and put it in /Extra/Minixx. I did use kext helper to install the CPU-I kext so i could see how my CPU was stepping though.

For those of you who have done the restart and speedstep fix. Double check to see if your clock is updating after sleep. I have kept my mini powered up for the past two days (just putting it to sleep) and noticed the clock stopped updating this evening (I think it was an anomaly). Anyway, I re-ran "UpdateExtra" and rebooted and it has fixed it.

On a side note, I noticed when I was running "UpdateExtra" the CPU load was a lot less than it was before installing speedstep (via iStatMenu).

UpdateExtra spends much of its time waiting on reading/writing to the disc none of which uses much CPU. That's why I feel so strongly that hacking of any machine to run OS X won't work if there isn't a way to enable speedstep for that machine. Worse for our minis is the lack of a fan. The designers expected only a certain amount of heat to be generated. Running the CPU at 100% messes up those estimates completely. I'd guess that's why there are mixed reports about battery life OS X vs Win 7. Those with speedsteeping on their OS X mini get better life and those without get poorer.

One thing that can make updates a whole lot easier with NetbookInstaller is to add your kexts to the app. It's actually really simple, you right-click on the NetbookInstaller application, select Show Package Contents, then navigate the folders thus: /Contents/Resources/SupportFiles/machine/<your model>/Extensions. Copy the kexts here, and they will be installed if you ever run NetbookInstaller again. It only works on that version, so if a new NetbookInstaller comes out you have to do the mod again. But it really is handy when you are going to use it on several machines or just to elimate the UpdateExtra step on a new NetbookInstaller update.

I guess neither you nor Mechdrew verified link number two. The application is no longer available for download from that location.
