Yeah, it does take a little while. I just keep the cursor on the window and wait until the beach ball is finished spinning, then close and restart.

Anyway, it's installed now and double checked that it was enabled in bios. I'll be interested to see what the battery life will be now.

Just wanna mention that the combination of VoodooPowerMini.kext and OSXRestart.kext didn't work out for me for no apparent reason.
It's a known issue already:

(...)There are a number of reports where OSXRestart.kext didn't work. A few people had to remove VoodooPowerMini.kext first, while others had to fix their installation. If you can restart once with OSXRestart.kext then you know (or should know) that the restart method I use is supported on your motherboard.(...)

I am running both kexts on 10.6.1 and 8.3rc3. I did not use kext helper or CPU-I. I just put them in the extras folder and ran UpdateExtra. = No Issues and both working flawlessly.

The only thing that can mess up the installation is not waiting long enough for UpdateExtra to finish doing what it needs to do. I recommend installing iStat Menu and monitor disk activity and CPU while it is updating extensions. Keep your cursor on the window so you can see the beachball spinning. You will know when it is done when the beachball stops spinning and the CPU usage becomes static.

So there seems to be some discrepancy regarding the Voodopower and Restart kexts.

...so I caved and installed CPU-i to see if my mini was in fact "stepping":

CPU0: Frequency is 798Mhz to 931Mhz at idle (with Safari and CPU-I opened)...then jumps to 1596Mhz while loading a new page.

CPU1: Frequency is 798Mhz to 931Mhz at idle (with Safari and CPU-I opened)...then jumps to 1596Mhz while loading a new page.

Does that look right to you guys? I think I'm good to go on both kexts working correctly (both installed via the extra folder and running "UpdateExtra").

After thinking about it some more. I'm not sure speedstep is doing much more in terms of CPU load than it was before.

Let me know if I'm off base:

Before speedstep, iStat Menu showed increased load when doing work on the computer (i.e. more apps running simultaneously, etc.)...and decreased load when idle. So is this not stepping in and of itself?

Now admittedly the load is less at idle after installing speedstep. (through observing CPU load in iStat). Am I mixing apples with oranges here? i.e. speed and load being mutually exclusive?

Thoughts?

Well, the "About This Mac" Fix didn't work for me as advertised on my Mini 10v running OSX 10.6.2. In the context menu, it still reads Intel Core Solo after doing the install even after shutting down and restarting, so I thought I'd try editing the SMBIOS.plist in /Extra, but I don't have one. Any ideas guys??? Thanks in advance.

I would also like to know how to make the /Extra folder (and just the /Extra folder) unhidden, that is visible in Finder, so I don't have to remember Cmd(Alt key on the Mini)+shift+G to get to the /Extra folder. Thanks in advance.
Really? I can't imagine that this is 10.6.1 and below only?

Anyone here upgrade to 10.6.2 and have the correct info from "About this Mac"?

Default about this mac doesnt work - 11-28-2009, 12:17 AM

I've upgraded to 10.6.2 and about this mac doesnt work. Everything else I've tried (speedstep and restart after sleep worked). I havent tried editing my SMBIOS.plist file in extra. In all honesty it doesnt really matter that much too me to try and edit the file.....if anyone gets this working (including) editing the SMBIOS.plist let me know.

Interesting.... I've updated the main page stating it is only good for 10.6.1 and below, until someone tells me different.

Out of curiosity did you have it installed before you updated, and what does it say now that you have 10.6.2?

Wait a minute though...I recall seeing several screen shots that showed proper info on "about this mac" from people with 10.6.2

The new NBI/NBM RC4 changes the processor identifier (CPUID I believe) so the 10.6.2 update will work.

The app is not required for 10.6.2.

What about adding the info for occasional hang at boot. Maybe make it easier for a noob to implement? I haven't looked at it in a while, but last time I did it was rather confusing.

I think it should definitely be added regardless. I'm pretty sure most of the dead stock SSD issues are a result of improperly power cycling when it hangs.

Ahh...makes sense. I failed to think about that. I'll update the main post.

Ok, I've added it. Check it out to make sure I understood the procedure correctly. What I did was copied the contents of the original .plist (taken from the original thread) and included the modification so the user just has to copy the entire thing and replace it. The modification is supposed to be inserted between key/strings and in-between <dict>
