Say Bear Hunter, here's one more for you...

Accelerate The Boot Process

Boot time can be shortened by reducing the Chameleon bootloader delay (timeout value in the \Extra\com.apple.Boot.plist).

Press the option key (the Windows key on the Dell Mini) and drag the plist to the desktop. Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the plist and select "Open With Other". Using TextEdit, or your editor of choice, locate the following entries:

<key>Timeout</key>
<string>5</string>

The integer in line two specifies the delay in seconds before the boot process automatically proceeds without user intervention (i.e. pressing any key to display the boot screen to select a boot drive or enter a command, such as -x to boot to Safe Mode or -s to boot to Single User Mode). Acceptable values are 1 through the number of seconds of delay preferred. The integer value is likely set to 5. Changing it to 2 will shave 3 seconds off the boot time. When finished editing, drag the com.apple.Boot.plist back to the Extra folder. Click "Replace" to overlay the existing (older) plist. Enter your password when prompted and click "OK". The com.apple.Boot.plist timeout value must again be reset whenever a new version of NetbookInstaller is installed (run).

NOTE: With the final release of NetbookInstaller 0.8.3, the Chamelon bootloader was modified to make the boot process more "Mac like". When only one bootable device (the internal drive) is detected, the timeout value (Chameleon bootloader delay) entries are eliminated and boot time is reduced by approximately 5 seconds. The timer display appears only when there are multiple boot devices provided Quiet Boot is not enabled. When Quiet Boot is enabled, the boot screen (menu) can still be accessed at startup by pressing the the Shift, Control, Option (Dell Mini Windows), Command (Dell Mini Alt), or F8 keys.

Similar to jimmymac_4's suggestion, if you multi-boot and want the Chameleon menu to instantly come up (no timer, no keypress) you can add the following lines to the com.apple.Boot.plist file:

<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>yes</string>

A great resource for Chameleon mods is the documentation put together by one of the Chameleon forum members:

Jim,

Double check the location of your com.apple.Boot.plist

I'm not showing it in the /bin folder. I have it in /Extra

Some of you undoubtedly have noted my reference to a Dell Mini 10v hackintosh resource/guide that I have been working on. Many of the posts made here by me were excerpts from that guide. If any of you are interested in reviewing my work for the purpose of providing feedback (constructive critisim), I could use a couple of editors (second pair of eyes) to catch what I have missed (inconsistencies, spelling errors, etc.). If interested click on my username and send me an email to receive download instructions.

Default Flash kills processor - tip - 12-10-2009, 02:59 PM

A little off topic ...

Installing ClickToFlash 1.5x plugin <http://github.com/rentzsch/clicktoflash/> really helps the poky atom cpu from rendering your mini useless when navigating to pages that use flash heavily.

Here's a link from a macworld review for more info....

The bootloader will (again) change in the next version of NetbookInstaller.

Right now, I've incorporated the 915 resolution patch into chameleon (as the mini 10 people know), so it'll be working for *all* intel netbooks. It also set the resolution to the lcd's native resolution.

To make the boot process more mac like, I've modified chameleon so that it *wont* show the timer / selection menu if there is only one bootable item (your internal drive). This'll make it look very similar to a real mac, and it'll boot up 5 seconds quicker. The timer will appear if there are multiple boot items (unless if quiet boot is set), but you can also get to the boot menu by pressing one of the modifier keys (shift, ctrl, command) or F8.

It'll also have better kernel patching built in...

Just os everyone knowns, you can enable remote cd by using NetbookInstaller, you don't have to use the terminal.

Great news man! I think this is the update that is going to push me to 10.6.2

Does RC4 enable Remote CD....or is this an update for RC5?
