Booted in verbose mode and about 7 grey screens flashed by of loading different things. Then it went to a black screen and stopped at "system uptime in nanoseconds: 1517521512" and the only error code I can see on the screen is "Error code: 0x00000000"

it also says "Mac OS version: not yet set"

Looked for one in /. It's not there.

Is there a way to force the kernel to read dsdt.aml at boot?

How did you look for it? Finder likely won't show it, try using terminal

That's because it's not in "/". It's in "/Extra"
