new member running 10v w/ 10.6.1 here.

how come gizmodo reports that you can simply upgrade straight to 10.6.2? seems to conflict with the general consensus here.

That is the Hackintosh that they built, which is apparently not running an Atom CPU

Since it's now official, reberto will be devastated. No more 'cute' threads filled with 'mass panic' to watch from on high.

I commented, but they edited my post.

Not to mention, since the current solution is to run the old kernel, how many of the fixes in 10.6.2 are lost, further begging the question, "Why upgrade?"

For the group of us that are very slow with this process... And I apologize in advance...

But can someone help me with the step by step of getting the old ...kernal(?) back as I attempted to update my system without thinking or checking here first.

Thank you all again for the continued support!

As said by someone else, stay with .1 if it's working ok for you. But, to answer your question, the update was over 500mb of compressed files - the kernel is only small percentage of that and.... you can't upgrade to some of the latest updates unless your system responds that it's on .2 .

I've been running 10.6.2 on my v10 since yesterday using the .1 kernel and it's been rock solid.

First, if you think you might want to go back, do a backup of the OS X volume. I do it by removing the drive from the v10 and connecting it to my MacBook Pro via an eSATA adapter - takes maybe 8 minutes that way.

Second, go to Terminal type "sudo -s" and then your password then "cd /". Then type "cp -r mach_kernel ./mach_kernel.6.1" to make a backup of your kernel.

Third, do the update.

Fourth, reboot but use the single user mode.

5. Once in single user mode, follow the onscreen instructions to enable writing to the disk then type "cd /" then type "cp -r mach_kernel ./mach_kernel.6.2" to backup the new 10.6.2 kernel.

6 Then type "cp -r mach_kernel.6.1 ./mach_kernel" to recover the .1 kernel.

7. Type "reboot"

8. Once you are booted, re-run the "NetbookInstaller".

Mine has been working like a charm so far.

For those less daring, you might wait a few more days just to save having to do a restore of your OS X volume but it seems pretty darn solid so far.

Also, all the above commands assume you press "return" at the end of each one.

Good luck!
