Oh, look who shows up... the all-knowing

Have you heard of ADC? If you are a member you can get early releases of software... including seeds of the latest developer builds of OSX.

I do not make things up and talk out of my ass. If there is a way for people to run OSX on AMD CPUs, then there surely will be a feasible way to patch the kernel and run OSX on an Atom CPU How long will this take... who knows!! But nothing can be broken yet since it is not even officially supported.

NetbookInstaller supports OSX Snow Leopard through build 10.6.1... nobody has ever stated that it will work with 10.6.2 but now everybody is up in arms because support has been "broken", kinda comical.

Support for 10.6.2 will be added in due time, given that it is possible to patch the kernel to work properly with the Atom CPUs. Nothing else is fundamentally different or preventing OSX from working.

I'm running 10.6.2 10C535 on my Core Duo 2.16Ghz MacBook Pro. As with 10.5.7, 10.5.8, etc, there will be issues with OS updates. I'm having a lot of issues with 10C535 right now (video glitches, WebKit issues, etc), so I think it will still be stewing for a week or so. If 10.6.1 is the end of the road, I'm a happy camper.

It is impossible for software to run in 64bit mode on a processor that doesn't support x86-64 extensions. Since apple released GMA945 based notebooks with 32bit processors, they cannot remove the 32bit drivers from the kernel without removing support for legit apple customers.

I'm quite interested in what exactly changed to fubar our atoms. Hopefully meklort will be able to provide us with some technical answers on what has changed.

That's exactly what I thought. How screwed up would it be if Apple charged people money for Snow Leopard, then stopped supporting certain Macs with Intel processors? A lot of backlash could occur. I'm sure all of this will work out in the end.

You obviously don't have a clue. 10.6.2 has been available to developers for weeks.

To both of you: It's not a final version, there are always many builds of a OS X update. Nothing is currently set in stone and no one TRULY knows if it will be broken or not.

Though all this mass panic is a cute thing to watch

I really hope it doesn't end up being this way in the official release though, running a vanilla kernel is one of the reasons I really like the Mini.
I think this sums it up pretty well. I doubt Apple sat down and said "we're going to drop support for Atom in the next release because of all those Hackintoshes." They have a lot more to worry about.

They might have said "we no longer have plans for an Atom-based system, so we don't need to worry about Atom anymore."

Or they simply implemented features not included in the Atom, but included in all the processors shipped on Apple products. Because hey, Apple has no Atom processors, so why worry if OS X works there or not?

As has also been mentioned, this is a beta build, not the final. This may, in fact, be a bug that impacts more than Atom and will be identified and fixed before 10.6.2 goes final.

Remember, you assumed certain risks when you got a Mini9 and put OS X on it. One of those risks was that Apple might release software that doesn't work with your hardware.

Worst case though - you can stick with 10.6.1.

Since I am totally ignorant on Linux (and most other subjects for that matter) - if Apple really wanted to prevent Hackintosh development, wouldn't they find a way to recognize that a bootloader is used to start the OS X system and cut off the exploit there?

No duh. According to your logic, meklort and the other hackintosh developers should sit and wait for the final version before doing anything. Kinda defeats the purpose of releasing code to developers ahead of time. Talk about a stupid statement.
