For the record, sound from headphones and a working mic is very important to me, I would love if that could move up the priority list. I've been reading here that a lot of people are happy with speaker only sound and audio after sleep, but this just doesn't work for me as I use my mini on the train and during travel 90% of the time and have to use headphones. Also I would love a working mic for my Rosetta Stone language program.

Currently, I have the VooDoo fix with NBI 8.3 RC1 it works fine, but the hissing is a bit much and the mic does not that work great. Anyway, just wanted to let you know. Again thanks for the hard work.

Thanks.
This has been discussed at nauseum, Snow Leopard is still incomplete on the mini. If you want a fully functional OS, go back to Leopard.

Moderators & developers, please advise on whether this is a bona fide bug, and let me know whether or not to post to the Google Bug Tracker ...

Observed problem: Not all kexts install as needed when running NetBookInstaller 0.8.3 RC3. Specifically, AppleHDA.kext was missing, and perhaps a few others. This caused sound after sleep & wake to no longer function.

Equipment: Dell Mini 9, 2GB RAM, 32GB Runcore SSD, wireless B/G, 1.3MP Webcam, no BT.

Reproducible sequence:
1 . As per directions, for 0.8.3 RC3, install 10.5.6 vanilla, fresh, on a freshly partitioned SSD. Ran permissions repair.

2. Reboot & install 10.5.8 combo upgrade. Ran permissions repair.

3. Reboot into safe mode ( boot: -x) and run NBI. (also tried running this by : sudo open <../path..to..NBI0.8.3RC3> , but the result was the same)

4. Audio doesn't work after sleep, though works initially after boot, sans sleep. Sleep does itself work well otherwise.

----------------------------------------------

I tried for about 18 hours straight, and 4 or 5 reinstalls, finally I saw a clue in another post that referenced AppleHDA.kext. I noticed that it was absent from /System/Library/Extensions/ .

My fix was a simple one, to simply use a kexthelper app to install all of the the Mini 9 kexts from the Contents inside (right click on) NetBookInstaller 0.8.3RC3. After rebooting, I found that sound now works normally after a reboot.

I'm not sure what the problem's cause is. It did seem to be a consistent and reproducible quirk.

Apologies if this is a documented problem/already known, and big thanks to all devs, mods, members & contributors. The work you've done since releasing DellEFI is really terrrific. Well done!

As purchaser of about 20 Macs since 1992 (I still have my Classic in the basement - it still boots & works! - OS 6.0.7 4MB RAM, Floppy Drive & 40MB hdd), I can say that until Apple makes a nettop, I _need_ my DellMini9 Hackintosh. It fills a crucial niche between our MacPro, MacBookPro & Mac Mini.

running .8.3 RC3 on SL on dell mini 9 i occasionally (@ once a week) get a gray box telling me to restart in a few different languages with the power logo in the background. I haven't been able to tell what's been triggering this occurance. Is this a bug in the NBI or SL?

Awesome work Meklort and Mechdrew! Just finished installing SL on my Mini 10v using Mechdrew's guide. After a few false starts she went and now I have a fully functioning,(so far) macbook mini. Sound after sleep works, speakers work as well as headphones and it switches seamlessly between the two! Sound after sleep also works. So far everything is works flawlessly. Thanks so much. Donation headed your way!

*I spoke too soon. I can't double tap to select and the edge scrolling doesn't work. Weren't those two things that were fixed in this release?

Happens on my MacBookPro about that often also, so I am presuming it's SL; or an issue with one of the kexts for one of the non Apple apps (although all the ones I use are supposed to be SL ready/versions). Or perhaps overheating. I'm just living with it for now.....

Not at the moment.
I've been working on a couple of different things (both related to NBI and unrelated) and haven't had too much time for NBI.

One of those things I've been working on is bringing the boot cd on par with NetbookBootMaker (and in the process, simplifying NetbookBootMaker). So in the future you can expect a boot cd that will work *exactly* like NetbookBootMaker (aka, no need to run NetbookInstaller after you install etc).

We all really appreciate the good work you are doing.

Thanks, again.

Sweet! I wouldn't have a clue how to do that so I'll just update it until you get that figured out.

Actually, right now I have it so that it'll mount a ramdisk passed in from a (slightly) modified Chameleon to wherever I want it to (probably /System) using unionfs. I'll either have it just add a new LaunchAgent (that launchd will start) or I'll make a kext run a patcher script itself.

Right now the only thing remaining is making the command line version of NetbookBootMaker for the cdrom (and future versions of NetbookBootMaker) that'll be used to patch the boot device.

The only downside it it *might* be kernel dependent since I had to manually export a few functions that apple doesn't want you to use, so in that case, a separate release might be needed for each kernel version (but that could easily be take care of with another bootloader modification).
