Thumbs up Runcore PCI-E SSD enclosure just received! - 09-24-2009, 07:03 PM

Arrived super fast. Opened package - surprised to find it is made of metal, not plastic. Removed six screws, three on each side (seems a bit excessive), dropped in stock 4GB ssd, connected to Mac with supplied USB cable, reformatted with disk utility (to erase Unbuntu OS) and away we go. Comes with two-headed USB cable. No LEDs to indicate power/activity. Been looking for something like this for months so I am very happy.

All I have to say is: TJ.... You 'n' me both.... I haven't been able to get mine to work. There was a screw rolling around on the inside of the enclosure, so I don't know if that had any thing to do with it....

I will keep trying it out, though. It's really weird.... XP seems to detect it fine, but there doesn't seem to be a way to access the STEC drive via an icon or any thing.... Bummer....

If the drive is not formatted as Windows-compatible (FAT or NTFS), it won't show up with a drive letter. If you go to the Disk Manager tool under Computer > Manage, you should see it there.

My enclosure arrived and it had no loose screws. I will try it out later today.

Edit: Tried it, worked perfectly. Screws lined up fine. Plugged it into my Windows desktop system and it saw the partitions fine.

Default Speed? - 09-28-2009, 12:47 AM

Has anyone tested their old STEC SSD in this and benchmarked it? I am curious to see how fast/slow this is compared to generic USB drives or SD cards.

Please check the windows Disk Manager to see if the drive shows up there. If it does not, please contact us toll free 1-866-217-1800 and we will be happy to get you a RMA for a replacement.

Update: Since I see the drive okay, I'm going to assume it works. I'm getting another STEC in a few days, so I'll test it out further then (try a format, etc). Thank you for your quick response.

I went to digitaldiscount.com to preorder from the next shipment....shipping came up as $7.13. On eBay, it was $19.99 with free shipping. Should I wait until they are in the eBay store?...tom
