Exclamation *OUTDATED* NetbookInstaller .8.2 Final (Official) - 09-08-2009, 08:16 PM

This version of NetbookInstaller is outdated. Please see this thread regarding NBI .8.3 Final. This thread will remain open for the time being to allow for discussion.

******************************************

==> PLEASE NOTE!! <==

OSX 10.6.2 and later requires the use of NetbookInstaller RC4 (or later)

* As always, you are advised to make a backup before continuing with the installation*

This version is able to be used on all OSX 10.5.5 to 10.6.1 versions (Leopard and Snow Leopard retail disks)

With this version (.8.2 alpha), you should be able to :
  1. Upgrade from current OSX Leopard (10.5.x) installation to OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
  2. Complete a fresh installation of Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6)
  3. Complete a fresh installation of Leopard (OSX 10.5.x)
  4. Create a boot USB from a 10.5.x or 10.6 retail disk
Meklort's Release Notes
This is the process you should take to install / upgrade :

  1. Restore OSX DVD (10.5.x or 10.6) to USB drive
  2. Run NetbookBootMaker (this version) to patch the USB
  3. Make sure Legacy USB is enabled in BIOS (for booting from USB)
  4. Boot Mini (9 or 10v) to patched Install USB [note, if "pinwheel of death" appears... wait up to 10 minutes. if not, reboot to USB]
  5. Install OSX 10.5.x, OSX 10.6 or upgrade from 10.5.x to 10.6
  6. Once the installation has completed remove your USB drive and reboot
  7. Enjoy OSX on your Mini!
[let me remind you that it is always a good idea to check/repair permissions after any OS upgrade. you can do this with Disk Utility or applications such as OnyX]

---------------------------------------------------------------
This version of NetbookBootMaker / NetbookInstaller is now the latest official release and any development or questions should be based upon this current release.

Other Thoughts
  • Be patient. Audio for the Mini 9 and better trackpad support for the Mini 10v are future plans for .8.3 (which meklort says is not too distant)

Known Issues
  1. Stock STEC SSDs may still experience problems with sleep
  2. When booting from the OSX install USB your BIOS settings will be reset. Once the installation has completed you can re-set your BIOS settings and they will stay.

PLEASE REPORT ALL BUGS TO THE GOOGLE CODE PROJECT PAGE. This will ensure that your bugs are properly reported and tracked... meklort cannot sift through all of these posts searching for bug reports!

Yes, the "alpha" is the version being referenced in this thread... which is the final .8.2 release

Anything beyond this point will be .8.3 (whenever that time comes)

Everything should be working on the Mini 9 and Mini 10v except for audio on the Mini 9.

Audio for Mini 9 and better trackpad support for the 10v are future plans for .8.3 (read the original post!)

And just so everyone knows that the Mini 9 audio bug is with Snow Leopard, everything should work fine in Leopard.

Also , the download should be up (again), I had to fix one tiny bug. You should be able to generate a boot drive for both 10.5 and 10.6 without it being dependent on your host OS (unlike previous versions).

Thank you so much meklort!
this is amazing. Hope to find a fix from you, for the audio on the mini 9.
I tried suggestions on the other posts but they dont seem to be very stable.

That's the main reason why there is no audio support for the mini 9 in 10.6. Once I have something stable, It'll be included.

And fore those of you who want to know (a few) of the many changes, read the first post here: netputing.com: View topic - NetbookInstaller 0.8.2 Release Candidate

Does everything include 'Deep Sleep'?
