I ran NBI 0.8.3 RC4, and rebooted. Although the system boots correctly, I can not install the 10.6.2 combo update - I always get a kernel panic. I also get a kernel panic whenever I attempt to repair permissions.

To clarify, I'm still on my fresh install of 10.6.0.

I think I screwed things up when trying this, because now I get an error message when I try to boot either OSX or Win7 via EasyBCD. When I select to boot OSX, I get a message saying that "\NST\nst_mac.mbr" is missing or corrupt.

I also get a message when trying to boot Win7, but I was able to somewhat repair it using my Win7 install USB, but now Win7 will only boot when I have the USB inserted.

What did I mess up here, and how can I fix it?

Ok, so while in Win7, I reset the boot order in EasyBCD and made OSX boot first, as well as deleted and recreated the Win7 boot. After a reboot, Chameleon now shows up first, but now I can't get Win7 to boot properly. Also, I still can't boot either w/o the Win7 install USB inserted.

Anyway to fix this problem w/o reinstalling either OSX or Win7?

There's a whole forum on dual booting. Likely there's a good answer there.

Quick question:

Since I only have one flash drive, is there anyway for me to load up netbookinstaller, disconnect it, reformat, put osx image on flashdrive, then install?

That's what NetBookMaker is for. You duplicate the OS X install DVD onto your flash drive and then run NBM on that flash drive. It will set things up to do its magic as part of the OS X install process and adds NBI to the utilities menu so you can run it once you've installed OS X. If you don't have access to a Mac the install CD is supposed to do the same sort of magic with a PC I think. I didn't follow the thread too closely as I have a real Mac here also so never needed a PC only solution.

So it will work even if i disconnect the flashdrive?

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question.
1) Plug in flash drive (8G or bigger)
2) Use disc utility to duplicate the OS X install DVD to the flash drive
3) Run NBM on that flash drive
4) Use that flash drive to boot a mini to install OS X

Obviously steps 1-3 require a Mac. If you only have a PC you must use the NetBookCD method, another thread here.

If you've already created a flash drive (did steps 1-3 some time in the past) you can just run the latest NBM to update the flash drive to the latest goodies from NBM/NBI. There is no need to do steps 1 and 2 again.

A new version of NetbookInstaller has been released, making this thread outdated. It's closed, go talk about the new version: NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 Final (Official Release)
