I found the Netbook BootMaker by accident while searching for SL info for my Neutrino. BTW, this works very well on the Neutrino, mostly. A couple of questions about whether or not the Realtek wireless app is required and sound. First I cannot get my wireless to work without using the Realtek wireless app which I used in 10.5, but others say it works OOTB, which is right? It's not that I mind using the app, but I get the device icon in the menu bar without the app and wireless shows up in System profiler, is there a trick to get it working without the app? As for sound, I realize all these netbooks are similar, they are not exact copies of one another and things don't always work the same. I modified an EEE PC guide in 10.5 it served well using that OS. But searching for a SL guide for that machine is what led me here, so any tips to get my sound working would be greatly appreciated. BTW, my daughter has a Dell mini for work and she is planning on buying her daughter one for Christmas. I have plans to hack it. In Disk Utility I partitioned USB drive with 1 Partition and in Options I selected Master Boot Record as detailed here : NetbookInstaller 1: USB Installation via Mac | Guides | OS X | mechdrew. Booted into USB drive on 10v, started installation - the time it states is a little inaccurate especially near to the end . Watch the install especially near to the end, as when it restarts the Mini make sure to unplug the USB drive and make sure the Mini is set to boot to hard drive. Don't select the hard drive from F12 Boot Options - let it boot into hard drive automatically on restart. After that, done! |

Aside from a couple of freezes (recoverable when forced shutdown and rebooted) everything has gone well. Recap: Dell Mini 9, 2Gb, new Runcore 64Gb drive for fresh install of Snow Leopard. I used the latest NBI - NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC2 (alpha)- delighted so far. The only trip-up I've had is not realising that Parallels can't run on Mini 9 hardware, realistically though, I'll use my MacBookPro for that when needed. Otherwise other apps seem to be installing and working well. Will update with a full list in a week or so. Very happy to donate to the development - really looking forward to the last few elements being resolved - headphone/mic particularly, but it seems like that will be coming soon. Tx. |

| Junior Member Posts: 1 Join Date: Oct 2009 | I just can't get SL working on my mini9. I've used my retail NL 10.6 version of SL as well as a downloaded english version of the disk, but both of my installers failed at 1/3 of the installation with the error that it could install the necessary support files. Did anyone encounter that problem too? How did you solve it? I've used a 8gb usb disk (and a 160gb external hdd) to restore the retail disk to the drive(s) and patched it with the latest version of netbookbootmaker, disabled BT and and wake up on usb, activated legacy usb support and booted my mini9 (2gb, 32gb runcore ssd) of usb stick (and/or hard drive). Everythings seems to be going really well until about 1/3 of the progressbar filled up and then the installer gives me the error telling me that it's unable to install the necessary support files. I've also upgraded my bios from 04 to 05 and it seems I'm really out of options! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! |
