What will be the difference between 8.3rc3 and the final release?

In terms of kexts, not a whole lot.

Under the hood, however, I've added some missing features (that were needed for NetbookCD) as well as bug fixes / more error checking.

In terms of future plans, I've added basic device detection support (aka, it'll detect what hardware you have and try to find a suitable kext... kind of like psystars thing, but much better). That means it can determine what bluetooth module you are using and patch the kext with your device id, as well as determine if have supported hardware (say, ethernet) and install the best driver. This way the only use for the machine specific detection is in the case of quirks (and dsdt for now, in the future, that should be generic too).

The driver in 0.8.3, while better, still isn't the best. I *will* be working on polishing it up more (smother, less jumps, better three finger swipes, etc). I've started to get annoyed by how it scrolls, so I'll probably be focusing on that (specifically the acceleration as well as how it sometimes reverses directions).

I take back everything bad I said about Gizmodo!

I was lucky in that I used 0.8.3 and the new driver so it was easy to fix the problem.

The fixed driver radically improves running SL on the mini. It's too bad the timing was slightly off on the article.

I've been using the trackpad driver from NBI 0.8.3 RC3 on my 10v and OS X 10.6.1. I'm not sure if this is my imagination, but after installing the Secrets pref pane and turning on the "Ignore accidental trackpad input" option (which is not visible in the standard preferences), my trackpad seems much smoother. Better yet, pressing the trackpad buttons with this option on doesn't make the cursor jump around anymore.

mattchiro: the Secrets pref pane is a small addition to the regular OS X Preferences. It reveals many of the hidden settings in OS X that most users wouldn't know about unless they looked for them through the terminal. Stuff like changing the dock from 3D to 2D, etc.

You can download the Secrets pref pane at Secrets.

Just a warning about the Secrets pref pane: even with very careful use, I've run into a seemingly unfixable problem (I've even completely wiped out my HDD and re-installed everything, reset my PRAM and NVRAM, etc.) where my boot process is slowed significantly.

Secrets has many enjoyable features - but remember: you've been warned!

sorry, but I call bull**** on this. there's no way secrets pref pane can have such an effect, even after a fresh and clean install.

been using this tool for quiet a while now and never had any problems. you must be doing something wrong.
