Question Linkbacks - 10-27-2009, 06:41 PM

Sorry if I sound a bit thick, but I don't really understand why I should suddenly receive eight linkbacks, all virtually at the same time, relating to a number of threads to which I have subscribed!

Some of these are not even in English, which confuses me even more!

Have these all been generated by the same person, or is it just that you send them out in 'batches'?

I am just curious really, but also quietly pleased than one of them was a advisory post which I had actually originated!

Presumably they are sent out in case the participant might find the 'linked thread' of interest also... or have I missed the point completely here?

Linkbacks are just the links used on an external site to refer to your post/thread/article. For example, the "link back" for this thread is "(http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/feedback/14548-linkbacks.html)" I am not sure what you mean by "suddenly receive eight linkbacks"...

When someone links back to your thread on MDM, then it shows a linkback at the bottom so you can follow where people are sharing your thread. A lot of times, live bookmark services on the web will report as linkbacks... such as StumbleUpon and others of the likes.

Please let me know if this makes sense, or if I did not understand what you were asking. I was sort of confused by your question.

Somewhere in the settings, you have set to be notified of linkbacks for threads you started, I think you may do this when you post a thread.

Please do not send me support requests via PM.

Well I certainly haven't been doing this intentionally, and wouldn't know how to do (or to undo!) it anyway.

I do have my settings to notify my immediately whenever a reply is received to a topic to which I have contributed, but I can't remember having noticed anything about linkbacks.

The reason for my post yesterday was than suddenly, literally in the space of a coulple of minutes, I received about eight linkback notifications, virtually one after the other, some of which, as I said weren't even in English, which just seemed a bit strange to me.

It is certainly not something I have noticed before, and as you can see I am a fairly regular subscriber to the forum!

Hope this makes things a bit clearer!
