Default More clutter - 09-09-2009, 02:16 PM

How about the mods have a little more control with reposts about the same questions over and over again. I makes it hard to search for relevant information for those of us who aren't lazy. Every just seems to spoon feed those that don't search.

Could you please be a little bit more detailed and explain which forum this is occurring in along with some links to examples?

I would be glad to help take care of this and merge threads or close them and redirect the attention to current threads...

When we close threads and ask people to search, we get pinned as "search nazis".

When we don't, the boards get littered with personalized threads because everyone thinks their situation is special. I've noticed this is especially true with the noobs buying Minis to put OS X on.

It really gets me when someone's first post is a question that gets answered 10 times a week, and if they'd bothered to just browse subjects past the first page, they'd find their answer.

The forum has a new feature that, after you type in the title of a new thread, gives you a list of existing threads that seem similar. It may help over time.

Yeah. That is actually a very awesome feature and I hope it will help cut down on the re-posting.

In the meanwhile... I posted a new thread in the mod discussion forum regarding this issue. Let me know what you all think

Here's a few:
"Which SSD is best?"
"Why doesn't my Bluetooth work?"
"Why isn't ___ working in OSX?"
"Which is the right driver for___?"
"Where's the 5vdc?"
"Why is my resolution messed up?"

The list goes on and on. I'm sure it would be a bit of work to merge all the info by now. Maybe a faq page?

Ah, I understand, no one want to be a "nazi". That's exactly the same thing that bothers me, the same question over and over again.

I just saw that. I think it would help a lot.

We are "in the works" for a comprehensive FAQ page... and, like you said, it requires a lot of time, research and effort to get everything organized and setup in a presentable manner.

In the meantime, we will try to deal with reposts in the best way possible... and will hopefully have a solution sometime soon.

I've also noticed a flood of posts from new members (example: less than 3 posts), who probably got a new mini, googled about hackintosh, and stumbled onto this board. It would be a great idea to place FAQ pages on top of each forum.

Seems like what's missing is a good sticky on top of the forums that can help noobs to answer some of the basic questions. Hopefully, that would encourage someone to read through those threads first before creating a new thread covering the same thing that's been answered many times. It's like every other day there's a new thread about what kind of memory to buy for their new mini.

Um... Is this the reason the Board FAQ doesn't appear any more? (or is it something with my display? I actually wanted to take a look at it & couldn't find it up at the top any where.... ???)
