This procedure worked great (followed the one on P3). Running 10.5.7, BT on and Legacy USB off in BIOS. When I first tried this, I deleted the wrong Extensions.mkext (there is more than 1 file with that name) and I ended up having to reinstall. Fortunately, I was able to reinstall from Time Machine.

Thank you to everyone on these forums. The Mini9 is my new travel machine. Great work!

1. First thing was the restore the bluetooth module by using the DellEFI 1.1 "Fix Bluetooth" custom option.
2. Restart and make sure the bluetooth is on and USB Legacy is off in the BIOS.
3. No boot in "Safe-Mode". This is explained below. If you know it skip to 6.
(In DellEFI 1.2a i've read this is done by holding SHIFT but I haven't tried this)
4. When you get to the darwin x86 countdown press enter to get the the boot list of available partitions (i.e. Mac HD in my case).
5. You will see a sort of command prompt that says "boot:".
6. type "-x" after the "boot:" so you get "boot: -x" in the bootloader and press enter.
Now your system should load in Safe-Mode and we're almost there.
7. Open Terminal and enter:

"sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist"

,as mentioned in the original post. It should ask for your password so enter this.
PLEASE NOTE: if you are copy pasting, do this thru "Text Edit" so the whole string is copied as the forum seems to add "Returns" to get the formatting right so the terminal editor doesn't load the info.plist in the end directory. I stupidly had this problem so maybe its just me. :P

8. Now the terminal editor should load exactly like the picture shown below.
Please make sure you get this screen otherwise check that the string you used above was complete with no spaces so as to actually load the existing info.plist

9. Press "Control+W" (This is the where is or find function) and search for 33301.
(From what I have seen all the original dell bluetooth modules have the same ID's)

10. When you find 33301 simply use backspace and clear it replacing it with 688.
Also move down with the arrow keys to 1452, clear and type 16700.
Make sure not to add any extra spaces or edit anymore than just these numbers.

11. Now press "Control+O" and then enter to save. You should find it says something like "Wrote 298 lines" on the bottom. you can repeat this just to be sure.

12. Use "Control+X" to exit back to the standard terminal window. Here just type exit and close terminal.

13. Lastly go to "Mac HD>System>Library" and delete Extensions.mkext (may ask for password) and then restart immediately.

14. This worked for me so I hope it works for you but be aware if you run fix bluetooth on DellEFI 1.1 again you will have to repeat the process. I hope I didn't miss anything. Enjoy
Whats up fellas?!

well, despite the "dummy proof" explanation given above... I don't understand one thing- and was hoping you all could put me in the know:

in step 7 it says

I stupidly had this problem so maybe its just me."

what is the reference to "info.plist" about? I will not be cutting and pasting the password, i'll just type it in... so do I leave the "info.plist" out, or am I missing something?

Thanks again guys!

Info.plist is a text file, just enter that entire line into terminal and a text editor will open after you enter your password. "sudo pico" opens the PICO text editor as a super user, which is why it asks for your password. The remainder of the line is the path to Info.plist, which is the file you'll be editing.

Hmm interesting. I followed the exact direction son page 3 as well, didn't get any error messages and the process happened just as it was explained, but I still have the box greyed out to be able to turn bluetooth off.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. I had to use a different Product ID and Vendor ID as I installed the Bluetooth module after I purchased the Mini from Dell. I am able to turn it off and on now. Thanks for the tutorial.

hey guys, this is a great thread. i did this before for 10.5.6 a while back and when i updated to 10.5.7 i put the same IOBluetoothFamily kext in the Extensions folder not even thinking that maybe the kext has changed in the upgrade. Now i'm stuck with a non-functional bluetooth kext and no backup for the 10.5.7 version. Is there any chance one of you guys can post their 10.5.7 IOBluetoothFamily.kext here to help a fellow mini9osx user? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out.

Add another thanks for Hussainx! Even though I used BBEdit rather than Pico, and didn't bother with the safe boot, it still worked like a charm.

I have a non-OEM bluetooth module I picked up on ebay. The module installed, is accessible, and I can use it to transfer files to/from my desktop. The problem is, no matter how many times I try to use the guide above, the module doesn't get configured properly.

The module I have is a Broadcom BCM92045 BT 2.0 Module Version 10GP.

I tried running through the guide, but if I turn off legacy USB support, my computer stops sleeping properly (OSX 10.5.7). Are there any modifications changes I need to make to the process outlined to get it to work. I've tried about six different times, and I'm about ready to tear the module out and stomp on it a few times!

Oddly enough, while the module functions, it shows up as "Acer module" under the USB list in System Information.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Just wanted to bump this thread and mention that I attempted this mod on p3 while at work but without an external disc drive I couldn't run the DellEFI bluetooth fix. I eventually decided to give PDANet a shot from Cydia and found out shortly afterwords on some other forums that downloading PDANet breaks the hack for the official iPhone tethering.

I thought maybe that was speculation but I can confirm now it's true. I've used the AT&T tethering hack for weeks on my MBP and now it's broken. It's a catch 22 I guess because it's always made me nervous using something official like that through AT&T, just unofficially. My heart is in my throat with every bill summary. Even though PDANet is no where near as integrated and slick, I feel a little more confident that I won't get whacked with any surprise charges as long as I stay under my 5GB limit.

Just a heads up.
