When I first tried this, I deleted the wrong Extensions.mkext (there is more than 1 file with that name) and I ended up having to reinstall. Fortunately, I was able to reinstall from Time Machine. Thank you to everyone on these forums. The Mini9 is my new travel machine. Great work! ![]() |

well, despite the "dummy proof" explanation given above... I don't understand one thing- and was hoping you all could put me in the know: in step 7 it says "7. Open Terminal and enter: "sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist" ,as mentioned in the original post. It should ask for your password so enter this. PLEASE NOTE: if you are copy pasting, do this thru "Text Edit" so the whole string is copied as the forum seems to add "Returns" to get the formatting right so the terminal editor doesn't load the info.plist in the end directory. I stupidly had this problem so maybe its just me." what is the reference to "info.plist" about? I will not be cutting and pasting the password, i'll just type it in... so do I leave the "info.plist" out, or am I missing something? Thanks again guys! | |

"sudo pico" opens the PICO text editor as a super user, which is why it asks for your password. The remainder of the line is the path to Info.plist, which is the file you'll be editing. |

I followed the exact direction son page 3 as well, didn't get any error messages and the process happened just as it was explained, but I still have the box greyed out to be able to turn bluetooth off. Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. I had to use a different Product ID and Vendor ID as I installed the Bluetooth module after I purchased the Mini from Dell. I am able to turn it off and on now. Thanks for the tutorial. |

| Junior Member Posts: 6 Join Date: Mar 2009 | hey guys, this is a great thread. i did this before for 10.5.6 a while back and when i updated to 10.5.7 i put the same IOBluetoothFamily kext in the Extensions folder not even thinking that maybe the kext has changed in the upgrade. Now i'm stuck with a non-functional bluetooth kext and no backup for the 10.5.7 version. Is there any chance one of you guys can post their 10.5.7 IOBluetoothFamily.kext here to help a fellow mini9osx user? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out. |

| Junior Member Posts: 5 Join Date: Jul 2009 | I have a non-OEM bluetooth module I picked up on ebay. The module installed, is accessible, and I can use it to transfer files to/from my desktop. The problem is, no matter how many times I try to use the guide above, the module doesn't get configured properly. The module I have is a Broadcom BCM92045 BT 2.0 Module Version 10GP. I tried running through the guide, but if I turn off legacy USB support, my computer stops sleeping properly (OSX 10.5.7). Are there any modifications changes I need to make to the process outlined to get it to work. I've tried about six different times, and I'm about ready to tear the module out and stomp on it a few times! ![]() Oddly enough, while the module functions, it shows up as "Acer module" under the USB list in System Information. Any help would be hugely appreciated! ![]() |

| Junior Member Posts: 4 Join Date: Jul 2009 | Just wanted to bump this thread and mention that I attempted this mod on p3 while at work but without an external disc drive I couldn't run the DellEFI bluetooth fix. I eventually decided to give PDANet a shot from Cydia and found out shortly afterwords on some other forums that downloading PDANet breaks the hack for the official iPhone tethering. I thought maybe that was speculation but I can confirm now it's true. I've used the AT&T tethering hack for weeks on my MBP and now it's broken. It's a catch 22 I guess because it's always made me nervous using something official like that through AT&T, just unofficially. My heart is in my throat with every bill summary. Even though PDANet is no where near as integrated and slick, I feel a little more confident that I won't get whacked with any surprise charges as long as I stay under my 5GB limit. Just a heads up. |
