Noob here but I wanted to say thanks to rakmini for the one-click resizing apps. Adding them all to a single stack in the dock keeps them out of the way but easy to grab. Brilliant!

I'm using an Automator script that's fairly handy.
It set's the scale to .8, waits 15 seconds then sets the scale back to 1.
This way I can run the script, load an application and then not worry about having to set it back to default.

defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.8
sleep 15
defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 1

Can you post the Automator action so I can see how it's done? I'd like to modify this by adding "open -a app" in the middle, so I could use the action's icon in my dock for opening the apps I want scaled. Would this work?

You can do it as a shell script, but automator already has an open application function.. Either way.
Here's a picture example for TextEdit.

Default Why doesn't this work with GarageBand? - 06-25-2009, 10:22 PM

Is there some reason why this might not work with certain apps?

I'm trying to make this go with GarageBand so my Mini 9 can function as a sort of musical "sketchpad".

No matter what aspect ratio I set, the bottom of GB is still off screen.

I am having this same issue regarding garageband and as far as I know, there is no way to even drag the window smaller vertically (assuming you could even access the lower right corner of the screen - I tried this on my macbook). I tried the app to scale the resolution 80% but it still is not enough, so it seems it would need to be scaled even more....any thoughts? Or has anyone tried or know the exact amount to be scaled or could write a simple program specifically for launching garageband? Thanks a lot.

Nevermind,..it seems that merely scaling won't do the trick for garageband 09 (as noted earlier in the post) - the window itself seemingly cannot be resized for access to the controls at the bottom; just the icons and contents within the window *sigh*

Default Mercury Moover - 06-26-2009, 03:13 PM

I haven't gotten a solution to the Garage Band problem on a Mini 9, but you can drop $20 on Mercury Moover and use keystrokes to move up and down in the GB Window. It sucks, but it's better than nothing. Helium Foot Software.

Another poor but workable solution might be to use MondoMouse $15 from atomicbird... It won't let you resize the garageband window but like Mercury Mover it will let you move the window up past the menu bar. It might be faster because it lets you do it with the mouse and a hot key.

Interesting...thank you for the suggestions. I will look into them, although now I question whether I should just delete garageband and gain a few GBs of storage back :-/
