Default Making Mini Boot like a Mac? - 09-29-2009, 08:06 PM

Is it possible to make my mini boot like a mac? like no chameleon, no dell loading at start, just an apple with a pinwheel? and holding alt at start to boot into different partitions?

or what about the startup sound we all love =D

No. This is not possible whatsoever. PCs use BIOS (although it seems as if they may begin to use EFI) and Macs use EFI. It is not possible to boot into Mac OS on PC hardware without some sort of bootloader (Chameleon).

The Dell splash screen is the BIOS on the machine posting and then the Chameleon bootloader obviously allows you to boot into OSX

No way around this!

Anyway to skip or shorten the Blue Line countdown on the Bootloader screen so it goes from the Bios to the Grey apple screen either instantly or quicker?

Yeah, you can edit the com.apple.Boot.plist file in the Extra folder on your hard drive/SSD and edit the Timeout string from "5" to "1". Don't set it to "0", I think that just loads to the partition selector, but I could be wrong.

Throw the Mini out the window, head down to your local Apple store, and buy a Mac. Easy cheesy.

It would be nice to be able to enable quiet boot, but have it ignore quiet boot if we were pressing a key, like the Apple UEFI loader does. Also, if you really don't want the dell logo, you can change a setting in the BIOS from graphical loader to POST screen, which makes a few lines of white on black text appear for about .5 of a second instead.

All right, this is getting closed. Firstly, it doesn't really belong in the Development section. Second, it's starting to get a little tense. I'm cleaning up some of the posts and moving this to the FAQ section. Thanks for participating folks!
