This is with the stock STEC SSD. The big issue, of course, is sleep (or the lack thereof) with the STEC SSD (check the sleep threads for the details). I will warn you though that I basically use this laptop for browsing the web and checking email and a small amount of code development. I haven't tried any serious video playback or games. |

It'll play 3d games (most 3d games for Mac are a bit dated, which is perfect.. haha), most video is no problem (Netflix via Silverlight is reported to suck, but that's why I have a Roku, and a real computer). Hulu plays great.Just make sure you have 2gb of ram installed, 2gb is the sweet spot for Leopard. |

Things like opening applications and starting up are super fast thanks to the SSD. I play World of Goo on my Mini which is about as much gaming potential as it has. NetFlix streaming works fine for me. I watch 30 rock and heroes all day on Netflix. Hulu playback is OK, but Flash totally blows the battery and makes the mini cook. But as with most, my common programs are Omniweb, Mailplane, NetNewsWire, and Adium :-D It is a Netbook after all Mini9 Black/32GB RunCore/1GB/BT/Leopard 2.4GHz Aluminum iMac/320GB/4GB/Leopard 1.83GHz White iMac/150GB/1.5GB/Leopard Server 733MHz PowerMac G4 40GB/512MB/Tiger Server 500MHz PowerBook G3 40GB/1GB/Tiger 25MHz NeXT Cube 750MB/16MB/NeXTSTEP 3.3 |

I know some people measure after post but that's silly. I'm waiting on the runcore chip, hope it's faster. This is by far much faster at bootup than xp or ubuntu in my informal tests. edit: 2 gb ram as well. I get about 2 1/2 hours of battery life on mine, will there be a six cell in the near future? |

But yeah, the unit does get warmest while doing things like that. Still not hot enough to be uncomfortable on my bare belly while I'm laying in bed. Yeah, world of goo plays well. Auditorium is a touch slow, but playable. We're well below the system requirements of that game though. As for counting the boot time from POST, the reason for doing that is the machine takes SEVEN seconds to post. That's ridiculous.. ![]() |

That's never been good for performance.. Just think, if Psystar wins their case, maybe Dell will be able to offer this as an option in the future.. heh (ok, I'm delusional... hahah) |

I use it mostly for web browsing, light gaming and iChat and I never seem to have to sit around waiting for things to happen. One thing that AMAZES me is how well the multitasking works. I recall the system pausing a LOT on XP if I tried to do a few things at once. Not so with OS X. I can launch Firefox, load a page have iChat going while browsing finder windows, all really flawlessly. And at idle, the machine has 1.7GB of RAM free. Amazing. Windows is truly a far inferior OS. GOD BLESS YOU GUYS. This is the best damn thing I could have wished for with this little Dell. When I bought it, I had NO IDEA I'd be able to do this with it. It looks so cute next to my 24" iMac too! Thanks to all who contribute here. |

I think Vista is far superior in all ways to XP But of course Leopard is way better than Vista... although some of Vista's visual effects are better than OSX's.
