Please can someone help. Is my laptop a brick, or can it be fixed. I did a software update, and now I have a white screen, and nothing else? Can someone offer some help? thanks

I have the exact same problem. I am new here and just installed 10.5.6 from a "retail disk image" using my usb flash drive. After getting this to work fine, I had tried to use "software update" and selected the 10.5.8 combo. After restart, screen went white with some small lines (junk). Please help as this takes much time to reinstall each time. Many thanks

I used NetbookInstaller 0.8.1 after installing Leopard from retail 10.5.6
This put a bootloader on my SSD disk. I have about 6gb of free space, so
I only used the 10.5.8 update combo from Software Update as there were several other items to update. I am not sure if it would be advised to use
the DellEFI install after reboot from update? Could I use the NetbookInstaller instead? My bios is A04 and not sure if this needs to be upgraded first. Somewhat confused on how to do this bios upgrade as my experience is with a Mac. Thanks

How's the update to 10.5.8 going on the mini 9?

Looks like you will need the newer RC version of NBI.

For reference, I performed the following and everything seems to be working properly thus far:

1. Run Software Update for everything (10.5.8 + any other updates it finds)
2. Reboot. You will need your USB key with NetbookBootmaker and previous OSX image (ie the USB key which you used to install OSX. You may need to re-restore your OSX image to this and hit it with the latest NetbookBootmaker RC4 if you haven't already). Have this inserted when you reboot. Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from USB.
3. Hit the any key when Chameleon appears, and choose your SSD.
4. Once on your desktop, run the latest NetbookInstaller. Remove your USB.
5. When you reboot, everything should be a-ok. If not, reboot again

FYI, immediately prior to updating, I re-installed OSX using my 10.5.4 image and NetbookBootmaker RC4.

Thanks for the feedback. I will hunt for NetbookBootmaker RC4 and NetbookInstaller RC4. Seems as if I need to boot into "safe mode" as well. I am going to do a backup prior to TimeMachine just in case something goes wrong. Will report back after I try these approaches. I have the retail 10.5.6 installed on my flash drive. Thanks!!!

From memory, I didn't boot need to boot into safe-mode at all...
