In connection to the Win32DiskImager and step 4 as decribed in NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System...

In connection to the Win32DiskImager and step 4 as decribed in NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System , what is exactly happening here. I have read that you can use a USB HDD for this part. I have an HP Pocket Drive handy, but I am worried that I won't be able to reclaim/reformat the drive when I am done.

I just posted about having issues reformatting my small USB drive. I did this to see if I could, but I am having issues on that regard. Please advice.

Open the Image Writer program (it's called Win32DiskImager in the folder you extracted).

The small USB drive is first. Select the correct drive letter under Device, slect the NBI_083F image under Image File, press Write and then Yes. The Progress indicator will help you know when it is finished.

Now select the large USB drive number, and select the macdvd.img file. Press Write and then Yes; this one will take a bit longer so wait for the progress indicator to finish..

When it is done, close Image Writer and remove the USB drives. Eject the DVD and put it away.

Hi, I am following this guide "NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System"

My question is in regards to these steps:

Open the Image Writer program (it's called Win32DiskImager in the folder you extracted).

The small USB drive is first. Select the correct drive letter under Device, slect the NBI_083F image under Image File, press Write and then Yes. The Progress indicator will help you know when it is finished.

I did this process. Now when I try to use the Flash drive on a PC it says it cannot read this format (now it is labeled as FAT). And that I need to to reformat. I reformat and it reformats it to a 47MB Flash drive. It is a 2GB Flash drive. What is happening? I can return my Flash Drive back to normal....I hope?

How would you do this?

I've a complete nuBee on OSX...but i've been reading up and finally bought a 10v (nickelodian edition) bios A06. I also now have a retail DVD Snow Leopard. I dont know anyone with a running MAC, but I do have the external ASUS DVD+RW, so i downloaded boot 132, started it up...
got to the boot prompt, i changed to the snowleopard DVD, hit enter, it said loading DARWIN xxx with a little rotating symbol for about 5 secs and then the symbol disappeared. DVD light wouldnt come on after that either. It just froze.
From the boot prompt, I was able to enter and see the MAC OS INSTALL highlighted. but thats all.
I'm still researching, but i'm kinda at the end of my rope right now. I do have an external 500GB hard drive, if that will help me out...

thanks for all the info

Hey all, I just recently got my hands on a mini 10v and put snow leopard on it. It worked great for a day or so, then it began having problems recovering from sleep. It would lock up, and I'd have to restart it.
So it happened again today, and when I restarted it, it just hung at the DELL logo screen with the progress bar at about 3/4 for over an hour.

How can I get this thing to boot so I can fix this issue? all of the boot commands I know are for when OSX is loading.

I just noticed today that I'm getting a Service Battery warning in my battery drop down on the taskbar.

I had my laptop sitting for a while plugged in like I usually do. Tried taking it out and then reseating it and making sure the tabs were holding it securely. Should I let the battery drain itself all the way and then do a fresh charge to see if it recalibrates itself (I know this is something they recommend you do on real Macbooks.) I've reinstalled Netbook Installer a few times already for an unrelated problem.

Has anyone had issues with the Dell 6-Cell batteries dying on them?

I recently removed OSX from my 10V and went back to WinXP with NTFS file system. Now I want to remove XP and go back to OSX. I have tried 2 methods described by MecDrew but they both fail.
1. Using the CD method and an external DVD drive, I get the NetbookCD to work, but it refuses to accept my OSX DVD and goes no further.
2. Using the 2 USB sticks method, it starts to boot into the second USB stick, but then I always get a window asking me to reboot my PC.

I am wondering if there may be some old boot records in my HDD preventing me from reinstalling OSX. I have tried reformatting the HDD with a clean XP install but keep getting the same results.
Any suggestions.

Getting my 10V soon via mail. Looking over the directions here regarding putting Snow Leopard on it.

Per this as it says in the directions: "8 GB or larger external USB drive (HDD, SSD, flash, etc.)" .

Basically, I have a 120 GB HP Pocket Drive with some files on it (Maybe 30 Gigs worth). Can I use this? It is NFTS.

During the process that you are partitioning it on a Mac, will it partition just a part of this? Will it format the whole drive?

Anyways, would using this be workable without losing the files on the drive now?

I just bought a Dell Mini 10V to use on the road at trade shows and enter orders into Quickbooks. So far i've got it all setup with Snow Leopard and the most recent version of Quickbook 2010 for Mac. Everything is working great as far as the computer goes, Safari works; I was able to get the screen resolution tweaks setup.

My problem now is just with Quickbooks. When I open up Quickbooks, the software tells you to "Customize Your Company Toolbar". The problem is when I open the Toolbar, it's blank and I can't do anything with it. I am supposed to see icons that I can move/erase/or create and I am supposed to be able to right click in the Toolbar and it will pull a menu to add things to it. None of this happens. I just have a blank toolbar and it looks slightly grayed out.

I followed a procedure to add a Report to the toolbar. This seemed to work but once I told it to create an icon on my Toolbar, it doesn't show the icon. The toolbar is still blank.

I've tried changing resolutions to 80% and 90% and 100% and the Toolbar still isn't functioning correctly.

I am going to try to take a screenshot to help illustrate, though there isn't much going on.

It seems like maybe there is some strange screen bug going on or something. Any one have any experience with Quickbooks for Mac on a netbook?

One thing I am going to try next is to setup my company toolbar on my iMac and move my Quickbooks company file back over to the Netbook and see if it will open with my saved toolbar. I have a feeling that it won't show it. It seems the toolbar is being masked and isn't indeed empty like it appears, but it just masked for some reason.

Hi, I'm trying to hackintosh my dell mini10v and have run into some problems. I don't have access to a Mac to run netbookinstaller on so I tried following the NetbookInstaller2 instructions, which recommended using a program called Image Writer for Windows to copy an os x iso to a usb. I only have a usb external harddrive, which the program didn't detect. It only detected my 4 gb usb key, which I used to write the chamelon iso to. Are there any other ways to "write" my os x iso to my external harddrive and boot up with it? I do have the os x retail disc btw. Thanks!

I decided to re-install SL after I had trouble with my current installation.

I've now done it about six times, and it fails at the end. I've deleted the partitions, and re-done them as MS-DOS partitions (just to get rid of any data that might be confusing the installer) before I let the installer re-create an HFS+ partition.
