Those that have some sort of video are indeed rather expensive like he says. But if you just want more like a super-USB-hub style dock without video you can go cheaper. In fact if your're just looking to have a keyboard. mouse, printer, that sort of thing perhaps just a USB hub (powered with an external supply) might be all you need. With perhaps a VGA cable to a 2nd monitor. Not too bad although not as nice as a real dock.
Since the mini is fanless it depends on loosing heat from the keyboard and wrist rest area. You'll find the mini gets very warm (I'd say hot) when run closed. Which is just my way of saying that a docking station with video may not be the best option if you're thinking of docking and using only an external monitor.
