My 8.9" Zeroshock III sleeve arrived this morning from Japan. Total cost was US$32.95 including shipping.
(sorry for the pic quality - cellphone was all I had at the time)

It's roughly the size of an A4 piece of paper and there's plenty of room - the mini isn't too tight inside. It's quite light to carry, weighs 200g (0.44 lb). Probably because the foam is reasonably thin. Seems a lot softer than my old Zeroshock II case for my Inspiron 700m.
Outside is smooth, not quite leather or vinyl - almost a smooth nylon/plastic. Inside is, made from the same memory type foam/neoprene that I expected, except its bumpy rather than smooth. Also has a pocket on top, but it's a tight squeeze. You won't be fitting the charger in there! maybe a USB cable.
So far I think I've made the right decision, I think it should stand up to knocks pretty well. Initially I thought the case was too big, but the fit is good now that I look at it. Will post further comments once I get a chance to road test it a bit more.

In hindsight, having a ö in your username when you own a netbook without a numpad wasn't such a bright idea...

I searched Dublin for a good case for my new Mini 9 with no luck other than neoprene sleeves that were too big or portable DVD cases that were awful.. Searching at home I found the perfect Solution !!. A FILOFAX A5 ZIPPED DESK diary from a few years ago. I removed the old pages and using a drill ( dont laugh ) i extracted the 6 ring metal binder - 2 small alu rivets -. Took 2 mins. !! Its a perfect fit . Checked Filofax website and it would be about £40 for a new all singing and dancing A5 Zipped desk Diary for 09. Cheaper one line . ( it measures 205mm X 263mm and theres one in 2 tone Steel gray- code 022876 that looks like the mini colours !! ). . It may be an expensive solution but its a great fit and looks great and you would end up with the page contents to us in 09.

I am using the Caselogic portable dvd sleeve, which I found at Walmart. It seems to be a smaller version of the TSA approved Caselogic notebook sleeve. Since it has no zipper or snaps, I can go through airport security without taking out my Dell mini.

I will have three before all is said and done. I bought a stretchy zippered sleeve from Amazon then got a free Timbuk2 with the outer pocket from Dell. Neither was perfect for me so I asked my resolution specialist at Dell about getting the E-sling Medium and returning the Timbuk2, which she agreed to. The E-sling is on backorder but they are giving that to me free as well since I had to wait so long for my Mini so I figure I can wait. Today they told me I wouldn't have to return the Timbuk2 case so I should continue using it until the E-sling comes in. They screwed up royally with all of this backorder and delay stuff but they've sure tried to make it right, at least with me.

Here's a video of a guy who had a sleeve made from a girl on etsy.com who does custom laptop sleeves and bags.
He gave her the dimensions and it looks like they worked out perfectly.

Below is a link to her etsy page if anyone else is interested in something handmade in some pretty interesting fabrics. I'm sure you could just ask here to make it to the same specifications. I'm considering one, but I'm waiting until my computer arrives to make any choices on cases and the such.

Yeah, I should have taken a second look at that sentence, hehe.

I like the sleeve dimensions a lot, but I'm not into the pattern he got, not that there aren't lots of other cool options on her site.

Still, those leather book-cover style cases are looking very tempting. Unless I hear they don't fit right or are having heating issues, I'm likely to get one of those.
