Default Using with a projector - 04-23-2009, 02:47 AM

I want to use my Mini for presentations with computer projectors, which I won't know anything about until I get to the venue.

But I'm concerned that the aspect ratio will be wrong. When I connect my 24-inch monitor any images seem squashed. Can the Mini drive external monitors and projectors with the proper aspect ratio, so a circle won't turn into an oval?

When I had Windows XP installed I managed to successfully connect to an external monitor which ran at a much higher resolution than the mini. I believe I used the "extend my desktop onto this monitor" option.

It ought to handle a projector properly but I would feel safer having a trial run before the presentation...

I successfully used my mini with a projector running 1024x768. The mini will handle higher resolutions than that, but the projector wouldn't. The downside is that for the mini to successfully drive another monitor in a resolution other than 800x600 it seemed that you could not use the mini screen at the same time which means you can't look at your presentation except as projected on the wall/screen.

I've used my Mini twice in the past week with different projectors that accepted the Mini's default 1024 X 600 resolution and still allowed me to view the presentation on my screen at the same time. The second time I had to change the display setting on the projector itself so that it wouldn't cut off the right edge of my PPT slides, but as soon as I did the projected display looked perfect. Most of the newer projectors have a lot of options that include either 1024 X 600 or 1024 X 768 (sometimes both), so I would think you would be fine 99% of the time. Ultimately, your results might depend on the projector, but I still think the Mini should be fine for your needs. You should be able to find a setting on the projector that is close enough to 1024 X 600 that it should work.

Mini 9 (910): Cherry Red, N270, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB STEC SSD, XP Home
Mini 10v (1011): Passion Purple, N270, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, XP Home
Inspiron 11z (1110): Passion Purple, SU4100, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, Win7
Alienware M11x R1: Cosmic Black, SU7300, 4 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Win7
Latitude 2110: Blue Ribbon, N470, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, Touchscreen, Win7
Zino HD (400): True Blue, Athlon X2 3250e, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Win7
Plus a few others not discussed here...
