Default SSD External Enclosures - 10-30-2008, 12:38 PM

I know many people are upgrading their 16GB internal SSD Cards to something larger because I've been on the waiting list for a larger SSD card for the last 2 weeks. My question is, has anyone found an enclosure for the old SSD Card? It would be a waste not to utilize the old SSD card in some way.

That would be an awesome way to re-purpose these drives.

That's for SATA SSDs and HDs.
The Mini 9 utilizes a mini PCIe SSD, thus the hard time finding an enclosure.

probably would have better luck finding a mPCIe to SATA or IDE adapter and trying to use it with a regular enclosure.

However,I doubt they exist either, but it would be good to have one so you could hook the SSDs to a desktop computer

I just received an email from the operators of the website http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com and they state that they are having them made and will sell them in the future. They just doesn't have an ETA as to when they might get them in. Guess I'll just have to wait patiently.

The new RunCore SSDs from MyDigitalDiscount for the Mini 9 have mini USB connectors on them, allowing you to just plug them into your USB port directly (though I think you'll need a cable)...

The Dell Mini compatible versions are pre-production drives and they don't have the USB port. The production models will come with the USB ports, so if you go this route, you'll need to wait.

I thought the pre-production models were being sold via ebay and the models now available for sale through MDD are production models...

jkkmobile is expecting a Dell version by end of this week, so I guess we'll see.

I've ordered one and don't care what I get. I'll report back what shows up.

Default Re: SSD to USB adapter - 12-02-2008, 11:53 PM

I found my way to this thread while doing a search for a "SSD to USB Adapter".
We have several different IDE & SATA adapters that allow the hard drives to be tinkered with by way of connection to a USB port but I'm brand new to the mini PCI-e / SSD scene.
Are there any USB adapters out there that'll work with a Mini 9's SSD? I'm not interested [yet] in using one to add an extra SSD to the innards of our Mini 9s, just looking for the easiest ways to do up dual boot systems on the critters.
We can even get away with a PCMCIA card adapter but would prefer using the SSD in a plain old IDE-esque fashion.
tanx in advance~
