The HP OfficeJet H470b is pretty decent and relatively cheap. It uses a battery and is USB. There's also an optional add-on bluetooth or wifi module.

Keep in mind that portable printer and cheap just doesn't go together in the same sentence. You'll pay for the portability and also the ink cost per page.

That would probably be the best bet. Using a Canon Portable Printer. When I worked for Canon a few years ago we used to get alot of calls from Insurance claim adjusters using them to do a claim and print it off for their clients.

Something like this:
PIXMA iP90 Photo Inkjet Printer

should be able to get one used at a good price.

To be honest there is no such thing as a cheap portable printer. But if you have a 110v cable for your car then any cheap USB ink jet printer will do the job nicely. You can find them DIRT cheap at any Wal-Mart; Target or Best Buy. I have bought them (HP, Epson, Cannon) for as cheap as 25$.
Most of them are very small and the reason they sell them so cheap is they make the money on the Cartridges. And they are color too boot. Keep it in your trunk and break it out when you need a printout. Its the way I would go. fdalbor

I have the Canon Pixma I90 and it is small enough to take just about anywhere and is a USB printer. I never got around to getting the battery pack for it but it can run no problem off an inverter in the car. My hubby takes it all the time when we travel to print off maps or whatever documents that are instantly needed. Has small footprint and is lightweight. Print quality is great for a small printer and it's fairly quick.

I've used both Canon and HP portable printers. My current one is an HP 460. Advantage over the Canon I had is cost of operation: It uses the same ink cartridges as some of the HP desktop deskjets, keeping the cost per page lower than with the Canon BJ I had.

Has a battery and either BT or wi-fi (all extra cost options in my case)

My wife bought me a new HP Deskjet 9800 last month for our anniversary. I just installed and started using it and was very happy. Pretty straight forward. I also love the fact that thus product has the best expensive option in the market for having capability to print to 11" x 17" printouts. I always use this size for my office projects and reports.

Installation is really easy and hassle-free if you just know how to follow the directions. In summary, run the setup on the CD BEFORE plugging the printer into the PC. Hope this helps.

Hardly a portable printer, though!
