Default Check out my Mod... Skin = expensive sticker - 02-06-2009, 09:14 PM

Didn't like any notion of putting stickers on my Mini....
I designed and created this one... along with adding 64g & 2g, etc... thinking I have another prototype in the works too...
I'll post as soon as i fulfill orders... Inspired by my car's interior... here is my work of art. lol, I havent finished with the mouse pad, however, kinda like the clean look... still works, the led's havn't been fixed too, but dunno if i want them... just waiting for my new "sport" power button... ps, you would swear this stuff feels like leather, feels awesome as it looks.

Looks great.

Where did you get the material from?

very beautiful! If you do make some of these what kind of cost are we looking at. I might would actually put this in place of my invisible shield. I am a huge carbon fiber freak!

lol, the only cost would be time and labor... I actually starting up custom designs concepts... just had some left over pieces from the build project. its all about technique... first two times, uh, didnt come out right. But the third time came out like a jewel. Waiting on some CF from a supplier and Alcantara, ultra suede, I'll show you guys what some little time and effort can result into... thinking about posting some of my work on Ebay ... Don't have any idea what to charge. I guess i could even sell a few pieces of the material for cheap. How much would one pay for this? lol...

hmmm, well i guess i could lay few layers of epoxy resin on it... this one is just a for testing and practice... still waiting on a different materials to arrive. Well, real CF has its purposes and function, most people are just looking for the cosmetic look. the funny thing was i was trying for the CF leather look... yes, real leather weaved in the same way carbon fiber is... bmw uses it in a few of its cars. Then again, most people are not going to spend the $$$ on a mini 9. lol
thanks for the feedback

does the touch pad function well through the material (not the buttons)? I really like what you've done here. It looks great. It makes me wanna cover my mini with some white material for a similar/opposite look.

Actually, i was waiting for the glue to properly set before I attempt to cut out the touch pad portion. However, the pad seems to work very well... really surprised actually, very responsive. hmmm... thinking about keeping the mouse portion on and just removing the buttons parts only. actually, the touch pad feels almost better in a way, never did like the completely glass feeling of the touch pad. dunno, going to have to play with it to decide, worried about long term wear on the touch pad. need to cut out the led's too... they have masking tape over them... i should have removed the tape before covering... did i mention this stuff is breathable... no tape would have let a dimmer light shine through very much like the mac stuff with its micro holes on its aluminum.
