Default Replacement Power Adapter - 12-09-2008, 10:35 AM

I'm looking to buy a second Power Adapter to be able to leave in my office. Does anyone know where I can purchase one?

I'm in the UK so require one with a UK plug socket.

Josh

Dell would be too obvious?

I've seen several (genuine) Dell PSU's advertised on ebay too.

Have you tried a Google search?

This seems to be a fairly elementary task.

I'd have thought it was faily elementary but I've looked and I can't find them on the website. The mini 9 is not listed under the models of laptop when searching for power adapters.

I can find a US one on the US site but nothing on the UK site

I see.
I can't really recommend a US one with a plug adapter on it. It's a bit kludgy for something to have to live with day in and day out.
Universal adapters are an option, but always pricier.

I suppose you could PM Zaden for some advice of you don't get anywhere with the part numbers.

I bought a couple of these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0285613336

That's US instead of UK, of course, but the cable that plus into the end is extremely common and the adapters are said to take input of voltages in a world use range -- you might already have some lying around, it's the same two prong one that lots of devices use.

You might be able to find UK specific ones as well.

It's very different from the standard dell one; very much a standard notebook adapter, but if you are just leaving one at work, who cares?

Don't get me started.

My UK Mobile-phone-style charger's central prong fell off in my bag. I called Dell to enquire about a replacement, under warranty and they said it was fair wear and tear, so no replacements. Hmmn.

I then got transferred to Sales who said yes they do sell replacement adaptors for Minis in the UK and I should look on the website. I said I'd already looked and hadn;t found, so asked them to stay on line whilst I found them. Sales then said they were US only. I went round this merry go round 2 or 3 times before throwing in the towel, and bought a couple off ebay. They are not mobile phone style, but they do the job, and are not as bulky as you might think.

Oh, and don't waste your time visiting obscure manufacturers websites trying to find the mobile phone style ones (as I did) unless you speak Korean, and are wanting to bulk order several thousand at a time.

Good luck

do you know that the mini power adaptor is "universal"? i mean, for example, i got a Aspire One too, and i can use both adapters in both machines

BUT, mini's adaptor is muuuuch smaller jeje

so, any 19V-1.58A power adapter should be fine

I just bought two of these on eBay for about the price of one from Dell:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %26fvi%3D1

The ebay seller lists these as "Brand New Dell Original", they are not OEM but build quality seems good and no problems so far (knock wood...).

Cheers,

Does it matter if the current rating is higher than 1.58A? Persumably the computer will draw what it requires to charge it?
