Default simple & low cost alternative of external CD/DVD drive - 10-11-2009, 01:34 AM

You may need a external CD/DVD drive for re-installing OS.
There is a simple way can save you 50 bucks.
just use the trial version of ULTRAISO, write the windows installation cd image to a usb flash drive, then boot from the usb key to install windows.
I did not dry this on ubutun/linux installation. it should be ok.

I read somewhere that places like Frys might be clearing out there external USB HDDVD players since the format is no logger being supported by the big manufacturers.

Might want to take a peak around for this. Post link back here for others that might be looking for cheap external DVD drives.

you don't need an external cdr to install an os. I installed windows7 on my mini9 with just a usb flash drive.
