Default Need software to mirror multi boot HDD - 08-22-2009, 11:04 AM

I didnt know where to post so I threw out here. I want to mirror a HDD that has 2 or more partitions in different formats with different systems. I am familiar with CCC but is there an easier way to so as to maybe get the different partitions and load the the drives all at the same time?

TIA

Do you really mean mirror or do you want to create a clone of the hard drive as a backup? I can recomend Symantec Ghost or Acronis to create a clone. I can't help with a mirror. Creating a mirror is actually done with your RAID software\hardware, which is not prent on the Mini... so I am a little confused by your question.

If you need to clone a disk, then check out Symantec Ghost or Acronis

Hiren's Boot CD has great tools, if you can come by it.

Are you trying to create a backup image of the entire hard drive that can be restored in the future?

To create a backup image of an entire drive, I'd just boot a Linux USB/CD, then run "sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=drive.img" to create a file named "drive.img" consisting of the entire first drive: "/dev/sda". Restore the image by booting of a Linux USB/CD, and running "sudo dd if=drive.img of=/dev/sda".

To compress the image and split it into CD-sized pieces, run a command like "sudo dd if=/dev/sda | gzip --fast | split -a 3 -b 700M -d - drive.img.gz.". You'll end up with a bunch of files named: drive.img.gz.00, drive.img.gz.01, etc.

These commands, or similar, will work on any Unix-type OS, I'm just most comfortable with Linux.
