Default Slimline USB 2.0 DVD/CD-RW External - 10-03-2008, 01:14 PM

Tring to find DVD/CD-rw external drive that will work with the mini. I need one the will run off the USB without plugging in a power pack. I would like to watch a movie during a flight. I seem to not be able to find what I'm looking for.
Can anyone help me?

If its only a once off it mite be easier to just rip the particular movie to a USB stick/memory card. Also quieter!

Anyhoot, Here's one at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827151163

Agreed.
Rip 'em if you can.

I've ripped our entire DVD collection (with a couple of exceptions) to files for just this purpose.

I picked up this one brand new for only $36.00 shipped on eBay. The seller still has 18 left.

Isn't this kind of a heavy power consumer to run off USB? Use a thumb drive or SDHC.

Have you used it yet? Does it work ok? I may return the $85 dell one and buy this one instead and save $50.

The laptop DVD drive enclosure I bought came with two USB cables.
When both are plugged in the Mini 9's ports power the drive.

While it does require more battery power to use, it also makes installing stuff from discs a breeze.

It just shipped today, so I haven't been able to try it out yet. I should have it sometime this week and will post my results. Hopefully, the seller will still have some left, so you can order if you need to. One thing to mention, this is not a DVD Burner like the Dell. It only burns CDs and plays back DVDs.
