I have just bought a nice small Toshiba PA3761u-1DV2 superMini DVR reader/writer for use with my HackBook Mini 9. It's powered by a double USB cable. It works fine as a CD drive ... but not as DVD drive. No MacOS software just Ubuntu and Windows.

Is there any way to get this working? I should have read the fine print before ordering, I guess ...

Just had a look at the spec for this model and the 'Burner Type' is shown as DVD-RAM rather than the more common DVD±R which might actually be a 'red herring' although it should still be able to read 'standard' DVD's I would have thought.

I believe this model has actually now been superceded by the Toshiba PA3761E-1DV2 DVD±R Burner but yours should nevertheless still 'work'.

Could you possibly have a faulty one, I wonder?

I had a pm from someone asking about what to do to make their Samsung external DVD drive work with OS X. For anyone who needs the info, check out post 5 in this thread explaining what to do:

I believe there might be 6 occurrence in the latest version of the file, just keep searching the file until you don't find any more instances.
