I ordered this one Amazon.com: Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084C/RSBN (Gloss Black): Electronics from Amazon. Very small and under $50, it has made installing software a breeze. Also handy for watching movies with VLC and I've also burned a couple of DVDs using Toast Titanium 10. It uses two usb ports so no external power brick.

The Dell one is on sale now for $79...it includes the cable and carrying case, I like it better because it matches my mini exactly and only takes up 1 USB port..2 USB ports = 2x the power drain....

In many cases, you don't need the second USB port. A lot depends on how much power one port can deliver. It is not correct that using two ports means two times the power drain. Many people have had issues with DVD drives that did not provide for extra power should it be necessary.

I thought that the Mini 10 only had 1 powered USB anyway..the one on the left side I believe is the powered one and in the case of the Dell DVD it only has 1 USB plug and it supposedly been tested on Dell systems (they dont say which ones..maybe only Desktops for all I know)...havent gotten mine yet to verify that

They are all powered, but I think the two on the left are less capable current wise than the one on the right. I'm using the two on the left with my DVD burner, but perhaps it would work using only the one on the right.

I've run into situations on my Macs where slot loading was a problem and prevented certain sequenced operations.

Default EXT. Burner - 01-05-2010, 01:21 AM

I have the Samsung DVD Burner for about 10 mos, have used it with mini 9, 10, 10V, Lat. 2100. Never had to use both plugs, didn't seem to matter which USB I plugged it into, always worked. The only thing that was crappy about it was the supplied Nero software, couldn't even load it, not that it is needed, I threw the disc away, but dvd drive works great.
