Good call on the Vaultz bag for the LG Slimline DVD drive. I picked one up at BB yesterday and it fits great!

I use a quart-sized Ziploc freezer bag to hold my LG drive and cables.

That wouldn't work for me...I tend to have "old-timers" and would probably put it in the freezer at some point.

@BFRedrocks...cool! Glad you were able to find one!

Hey,

To all you guys who have bought drives - have you been able to find region free firmware for them?

Cheers,

Suman

I haven't even looked - not of interest to me. I don't use the DVD drive to play movies.

hey guys - i am going to try the Panasonic UJ-220 - BD/DVD burner (external slim USB drive). Found one on fleabay for <$200 shipped. Not only for the DM9 - though interested to see how it does trying to play BluRay movie.

Mainly to have a portable burner and BD ROM/Burner which i can swap between desktops and laptops. Plus take with me when i want it for the mini.

I'll let you guys know how it does. Probably take a couple weeks coming from HK.

Though this thread is a bit older, it's worth noting that some are on sale like:

Samsung SE-T084M/RSBD External Slim Slot Load USB Lightscribe DVD-Writer (Black/Silver) for $60 with free S&H

Here's the list of external slim sammys:

Model
SE-S084B/RSBN : Tray
SE-S084B/RSLN : Tray
SE-S084B/RSWN : Tray
SE-T084M/RSBD : Slot Loading
SE-T084M/RSWD : Slot Loading

For me the key thing is the it must be Slot-Loading as opposed to tray-loading.
