I got this one from MCS (Mobile Computing Solutions). It's a slot load DVD-RW drive thats 8X DVD 24X CD and powers itself off the USB port. Really convenient for the mini.
Does it burn DVDs? or just read em?

where did u get it from? (link)?

Here you go. http://store.mo-co-so.com/external-usb- ... -p-36.html

Yes it burns DVD's just fine. I copied a bunch of stuff using it with my E1505 getting ready for my Mini to be delivered. It's actually quite fast.

Have you used it yet? Does it work ok? I may return the $85 dell one and buy this one instead and save $50.
I received it today and it works great. I powers off a single USB port. Works perfectly.

Not the cheapest on the market but in my opinion one of the better looking options

LG GSA-E50.jpg[/attachment:2rktpngg]

Available in white and black (my preferred option) and the rounded glossy finish goes well with the Dell Mini 9
  • White is Model GSA-E50N - normally slightly cheaper
Black is Model GSA-E50L - with the "L" meaning LightScribe

Works on all netbooks I have tried so far including the original eee under Linux and can be used within the O/S or for booting

Can use 1 (works on the mini with 1) or 2 USB ports (if 1 doesn't supply enough power) and is supplied with Nero software (black includes LightScribe) and 2 cables - 1 for power and the other for USB 2.0 connection of the drive

Honestly, as little as I need a cd drive with my mini, I can't fathom spending much money on a drive that I will inevitably break.

I got the LG and it works fine with the OS drivers. I only needed to use one USB for data and power. I can watch movies, load program(Halo) was first, and copy files as well. The LG design and black matches the black mini real well.

I also have the LG - works great with just one USB cable for reading and writing. Haven't tried the Lightscribe feature yet, though.

I just received the LG Slim drive. Works great, and really like the small form factor. Now to find a case or sleeve for traveling with it.

the nasty ones from ebay work perfectly fine.

powers off 1 usb cable even when mini is on battery.

DVD reader, and also burns CD's aswell. Installed XP Pro from it aswell, flawless.

I went to BestBuy today, and found a great little pouch to hold the LG Slim drive. It was $5 from a company called Vaultz. The drive fits perfectly inside, is cushioned and has a zipper.
