I cannot believe this !!
No to say I don't appreciate it, but I FINALLY figure out how to get everything to work after spending two weekends on this DUAL-BOOT, and the same day I succeed, an easier straightforward method comes out !!

Anyway, anyone know how to modify the running of the bootloader to start OS X automatically in any # of seconds?
Thanks,
Meelseba

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index ... And_Tricks will show you how to modify your com.apple.Boot.plist file for various tweaks, including the Timeout:

Speed up Darwin's timeout count-down
Code:
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>8</string>
Replace 8 to a new value in seconds.

I may have been blind, but I think I may have had dual boot earlier than I realized. Only after reading guides on another site did I realize that the dual boot was through Darwin and F-8.

I have XP and OSX booting this way. I don't see why it wouldn't work other OSs.

Nice find on the iomega slim burner. I am sure Costco will have a lot of sales and returns of these in the next few days

Hi,

I got it as far as here:

3. Boot the DellMiniBoot and retail OS X DVD. Once you have squared away your XP setup, use the Disk Utility to erase the second partition in NTFS and set it up as a Mac (Journaled) partition. Close the Disk Utility.

4. You can either build your Mac OS X setup from scratch, or restore your Mac partition from the DMG image file you did in step 1 back to the second partition.

When I try to install osx on the second partition, it asked me to re-partition the disk as guid.

is there a way to get around this?

You can try modifying the installer as outlined in this thread:

woooohoooooo-dual-booting-os-x-&-xp-on-the-runcore%C7%83-t1699.html#p13228

I used a modified installer for my dual boot config.

Start at this section:

"When Leopard is started plug in your USB Key and put the Leopard Install DVD in the drive and wait for it to mount.

Open Disk Utility. Configure the USB Key to use a GUID partition table and create a single Mac OS Extended partition on it called "Mac OS X Install DVD"."

so. to summarize my problem

I partitioned the disk as two partitions. #1 fat32 #2 ntfs

installed xp on #1 and had no problem booting in to it.

then, created a modified installer of os x and installed os x on #2 partition with no problem. with help of that dellminiboot disk, I can booting to osx with no problem.

now, I have trouble to boot into xp. even with dellminiboot, when I choose the windows partition, it says something like ndtlr error..

I am trying to reinstall xp on #1 partition now.

Does this require a 32GB drive, or can you do it on a 16GB? I've seen other posts that talk about shrinking XP enough so it should fit.

Thanks for all your work on this. I'm like you where I need to use XP at times. This looks easy enough that even a newbie like me should be able to do it.
