You won't be able to see your Snow Leopard drive until you reboot using the SL USB and run chameleon.

I installed Snow Leopard at first without any splitting of the drive. When I ran disk utility to partition my XP partition, I just did an equal split - 80GB for SL and 80GB for XP.

Oh, I forgot to mention that you will also have to make SL the primary drive. After you run Chameleon, run this in terminal to make SL the primary drive:

Code:
sudo –s (to allow the proper access)
(enter admin password)
fdisk –e /dev/rdisk0
p (should show both partitions)
f 2 (sets the second partition to active for booting)
w (write the changes)
q (quit the fdisk application)
Thank you very much Kadosh !!!

I now have Snow Leopard and XP dual booting !!!

I can't believe how much time I wasted trying to get my XP USB to work. I guess the external DVD is the easiest and fool-proof way to install XP onto a dual boot system.

I would then restore OSX and then in disk utility, restore the drive back with XP on the 2nd partition. But with this method, i still could not figure out how to boot XP properly. Any idea?
Hey b-mang,

you are correct. I had trouble trying to install xp on the dual partition using the USB install method.

Thanks for your post above. I would have been banging my head against the table for days if you hadn't mentioned your experience. The external cd installation does work with XP and SL.

I don't believe so; if my knowledge is correct, you can have up to 4 primary partitions for OS installation on. If not, please correct me.

I believe that this guide gives the hint to do it. Here may be the outcome of the scheme.

On top of this, it is also possible to boot off USB and removable as the extras.

This thought just serves as paper-spin.

TQ!!! I almost there. I got both SL and XP installed. And bootloader installed and then set active P2 for OSX. Now, when i select SL, it crashes during start up. I suspect is the netbook installer that i use is not compatible with SL, previously i use it for 10.5. Can you please refer which netbook installer i should use for SL on 10V?

A few notes from my experiences (and I am very new at the whole Mac/Hackintosh thing)...

* You probably want your flash drive dual-partitioned as FAT32 and Journaled for Windows drivers, the .DMG file, etc.
* Not all external CD/DVD drives will be recognized by bootup discs, so your .DMG file should be on your flash drive.
* Acronis Disk Director is not required. I could not use my DVD external when booting from a boot disc (would not load drivers, detected no disc drive) and could not access my flash from DOS. I used an old Windows 98 disc, so simply used the old Format command. This formatted the first partition properly.
* If you run DellEFI on your initial OS X install, and follow this guide, you will need to rerun it after restoring the image, but as custom mode. Easy mode will detect that it exists and tell you no reboot is required.

I may have screwed up here and there, but as I said, I'm new at this whole mess.

1) Install Snow Leopard using this method.

2) When Snow Leopard is booting fine, go to Disk Utility -> Partition and add a Volume. Click on the new partition and select MS-DOS (FAT) from the Format list. Click Apply.

3) Boot to the XP setup DVD. Install XP to the FAT partition using the NTFS quick format. Install the hardware drivers needed for XP. After this install XP becomes the primary boot.

4) Boot back to the OS X using the Snow Leopard DVD USB. i.e boot to USB, when the timer is running, press the ESC button and select your harddrive's OS X partition.

5) When in Snow Leopard, run NBI again, just in case any clean up in needed. I don't know if it is. I also check the 'Generate a system specific dsdt.aml file'.

6) Open terminal and type the following from the first post in this thread:
Code:
sudo –s (to allow the proper access)
(enter admin password)
fdisk –e /dev/rdisk0
p (should show both partitions)
f 2 (sets the second partition to active for booting)
w (write the changes)
q (quit the fdisk application)
That's it! Thanks for the additions to this thread to make this a simple process.
This might do the trick for me. I will be attempting to dual-boot OSX and Win7.

One question: Step 3. . . . . Where do you get the WinXP drivers? And, will I need something like this to get WinXP to work?

Thanks.

You'd get them from the Dell support site. This would be for things such as the network, the SD card, the ACPI control for the battery, etc.
