Default Problem booting into Windows OS/Partition - 02-16-2011, 02:18 PM

Hi,
I have a dell mini 10v and I had setup Windows OS and the Mac HD as partitions and they were working fine. I am a student and I felt that most of my needs were met by the OSX OS and I did not use the Windows OS for maybe 3 months?

Anyways, I decided to boot up windows today for testing some java. I got the following error message.
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

At first i thought it was because the partition was unusable or something, however I can access the recovery partition fine on OSX, which is the partition i use to boot up into windows (Probably not the perfect way but it worked so i decided to stick with it).
If i boot the windows partition, then it just says "Bootmgr is missing".

Please could you offer some advice on how to recover the boot sector and get back to my already installed windows OS without loosing any data?

Thank you.

Hey Viper....
sorry to hear this problem's reared it's ugly head (again, sort of)....
Do you have an external dvd drive? you can follow this:
Fixing "BOOTMGR is missing" Error While Trying to Boot Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek

if not, i can suggest a not so conventional attempt at a fix. (i did this on a Vista install, which also uses bootmgr, back when i was originally trying to figure out what went wrong w/ your install).

Bootmgr is a hidden file on your root windows drive, ( C: drive )
you could try copying the file from your recovery partition to the C: drive.

unfortunately, if you can no longer boot into windows the way ou had in the past.... you have to find another way of accessing those files.

you can install Ntfs 3-g in OS X, and that will allow you to write to your windows disks so that you can move the file that way. back up the file before you replace it, in case it ends up not working out.

GL.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just copied the file from the recovery to windows and booted it up choosing the windows partition. Got the following error
File: \boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

So I guess the file is corrupted? Is there a way to fix the file?
I'll have look at that other link
thanks

bummer..

honestly i don't know of a way to modify the file.
but your best bet all along is to use the the windows installer to repair it. so yeah, check out that first link.

cheers.

Wow I knew this would happen

I cannot boot into osx now, I did the bootrec /fixboot, just got the message "Windows could not recognise a volume" or similar. I did other ones like bootrec /fixmbr or something. Must screw the bootloader up, with the windows repair.
My windows partition is on E:, and well the Osx one is not recognised by diskpart anyways.
I consider myself to be fairly adapt at using computers but honestly, this stuff is so confusing. 1 line can screw up your whole configuration. I always feel like I have no idea what Im doing, when trying to fix MBR's or bootsectors. Have no clue, and usually that means I type something and hit enter without thinking of the consequences.

Need some help please

I have the following resources:
External HDD
2 8GB USB Flash drives, 1 with windows 7 on it.

Thanks

Do you have the osx install USB still? Or the external hard drive with osx on it that you used on your dual boot set up?

Well, you'll need to run NBI on the osx partition to fix chameleon.
