Default Test : boot from a ubuntu USB key on a OS X 10v - 11-13-2010, 10:53 PM

Hi !
I'm thinking about adding a dual boot to my Mini 10v which currently has OS X installed. Before I went through all the trouble, I wanted to test Ubuntu a little, so I made a Ubuntu USB stick, and I thought I could just boot it by activating BIOS USB support and putting USB before hard drive in the boot list, but I still get chameleon then OS X. Is there anything I can do to test this stick ?

[EDIT]
Been reading more tutos, trying different settings with the BIOS, and it still seems I did everything right. Could it be that my USB stick is faulty ?

By the way, I used the image found on this page and followed the guide to make the USB stick located on the same page.

Can you boot off the USB drive on another computer?

I tried on a MacBook and no luck either. I don't have any other computer available for now, but it didn't work with this one (when according to the Ubuntu guide it should have). So I guess I'm either doing something wrong in the making of my USB stick or it is faulty in some way.

I could add that when simply plugging it in an active computer I can see its contents, which seem pretty normal for a linux boot drive (bootloader stuff and system stuff). For what it's worth, the contents are to some extent identical to those of the disk image if I browse it (same files, don't know about all the low-level stuff or what have yous).

Problem solved : I used a griend's Linux box to create the USB boot drive and it worked, so there was indeed something wrong with the os x method (or with me).

Phew, installed Ubuntu, and seeing all the tutos I never thought it would be as easy as just install and reboot with SHIFT
