Default Adding Windows Partition to Chameleon - 07-01-2010, 07:42 PM

Hello,

I have a 10v, and everything is working splendidly. Snow Leopard is nicely updated, and has NBI 0.8.4RC1*, and Seven is all installed on it's own partition, also working nicely, also fully updated. Everything is happy as a clam, except...

To switch which one I want to boot in to, I manually change the active partition. If I want to boot into Windows, I change the active partition to the Windows partition with fdisk in single-user-mode, and if I want to boot into SL, I change the active partition to SL using DiskPart before I reboot. Now, this only knocks about a minute off a reboot into another OS. But, it would be nice to have Windows just appear in the Chameleon bootloader that is already working nicely (though a little uselessly) underneath my SL installation.

To recap, I have a:
  • Working 10.6.4 w/ NBI 0.8.4RC1*
  • Working Chameleon (With only the SL option when i choose what to boot)
  • Working Windows 7
It would be nice not to reinstall any OSs. If I had to, I could re-install Windows. It would be far too much of a chore to backup all my mac stuff and reinstall that partition.

Thanks!

Donald J

*It's actually a very minutely modified version of RC1 that meklort posted in the Official 10.6.4 Update Thread.

EDIT:

Looks like I'm having the same problem as Mr. Dssking. We're just looking at our problem from two different angles, it seems.

Hi there donaldj,

I have a dual boot OSX 10.6.4 and Windows 7 Home Premium on my Mini 10v but I don't use chameleon as the bootloader.

These are the steps I took - this method uses EasyBCD to manage the dual boot and is quite straightforward - I had used it before to manage a Vista/XP dual boot.

1. I installed snow leopard
2. I then created a separate partition on which I installed WIN7
3. I downloaded EasyBCD from this site NeoSmart Technologies
4. I ran EasyBCD and added the Snow Leopard as a second entry
5. So I have both OS's available from the windows bootloader - it works fine.

Sorry I can't give you any screenshots just now as I lent my Mini 10v to my son who is in London. However you will find the necessary gen in this link

How To: Dual Boot Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on a PC

I didnt think of EasyBCD! I was too focused on Chameleon I suppose.

Yes, I've used EasyBCD before, and it looks like a good option here.

Thank you.

UPDATE: Yep. EasyBCD worked a breeze. Just added a new entry as a Generic OSX86, and I was good to go! Thanks.
