Mac OSX 10.6.3 Update Fix for Multi Boot!!! - 04-03-2010, 04:58 AM
I think I figured out what happens when NBI 0.8.4 gets installed...
The MBR gets out of sync with the EFI partition information. That's why Chameleon shows the correct OSs, but they won't boot correctly once control has been handed over to the initial boot loader since they rely on information in the MBR...
Get gptsync for OSX from here
Install the package, run terminal and type 'sudo gptsync /dev/rdisk0' -> rdisk0 refers to the disk that boots the machine and may be different for you, but won't hurt to try...
Type your password to allow access to the MBR.
It will tell you if the GPT and MBR are out of sync and ask to rewrite the MBR to sync them. If the last list of partitions looks correct, say yes and it should fix your problems...
I have OSX, Ubuntu and Windows XP installed on my Mini 10v.
If Windows 7 or Vista is installed, I would like to know if this fixes your problem.
NOTE: ***THIS ASSUMES YOU SETUP ALL YOUR PARTITIONS FROM WITHIN OSX***
(Chameleon won't see them unless they're in the EFI/GPT and thus setup correctly, so this is just to cover my butt)
STANDARD DISCLAIMERS APPLY (don't call me if your cat runs away due to this not working )
Hope this help...
BTW, How could this be included in NBI and thus perform the fix automatically???
