Default Chameleon default folder - 03-18-2010, 05:41 PM

I just had a successful weekend spent upgrading my Mini 9 with the retail version of Win 7 and Snow Leopard. Except for a few moments of stress and using a combination of information found in the awesome guides available on these boards things turned out great.

Then the tweaking began.... It's still good but I just had a quick question. When Chameleon loads I get the main screen with a HD icon and the backward moving timeout bar. Is there anyway to just get it to load without that screen and just go into my two choices? I understand the reason for the timout but I think I can live without it.

Cheers

Yes. Bootloader Commands List

You want to use the "Instant Menu" option.

Please see the link I posted above. The options are in the /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist file. The /Extra folder is hidden by default but you can go directly to it in Finder via the "Go to folder" menu option. You will probably have to change the permissions on the file to allow read/write access so you can save it after making the change(s) you want.

After my SL install I've had trouble changing permissions to the Extra folder. The change mod commands just don't stick. It's easy enough just to copy the com.apple.Boot.plist file to a personal directory / folder and edit it there then just paste it back into the Default or Extra folder. That's how I've been doing all of my edits.

The edit is easy

There should be a <key>Instant Menu</key> and then underneath <string>Yes</string>

Just change the string from Yes to No

HTH
