Default Do I NEED a USB drive if I have access to a USB DVD drive? - 12-15-2009, 03:46 AM

I've been reading through the guides and feel pretty comfortable. However, I have yet to see any guide mention if you have a USB DVD drive. I would like to install SL 10.6.x and dual boot into Windows 7 as well. I do not have access to a Mac to make a bootable USB drive, but I do have the spare DVD drive. Is this possible? Looking at this guide it seems possible. Step 10 has me asking the question "how do I install netbookinstaller"? Do I just download it from within SL and run it?

No, I believe that a USB DVD will work just fine...

Never got mine to install from usb sticks, but using an external DVD it went through with no problems. I used a genuine retail copy of SL, bought from Amazon, and the CD NBI RC4. Dual booting Win7 is fine, this is the guide I used which needs to be followed in detail, with the exception that you will be swapping DVDs about on the drive:
OSx and Windows7 dual boot, a how-to

I've used both as well. The DVD drive was much faster since you didn't have to make a USB key first.
