Default MBR changed to GUID ? - 11-30-2009, 05:57 PM

I had a successful Win XP & OSX 10.6.1 configuration.
I got a new drive and prepared it as MBR with 3 partitions.
I copied my delivered XP to first partition (NTFS) of a new drive and edited the boot.ini so windows would be happy.
I used netbookCD, but replaced the osinstaller framework with the version that is compatible with MBR.
The final partition is for data that I can share between the OS's.

I got caught with the 10.6.2 vs Atom processor problem, and worked back out of that mess with help from all the info in here. Funny thing is - I seem to rarely use it as a Windows machine. I just tried it now and it won't start up. It hangs on the blue screen with windows logo. I just looked at the drive and see that it's a GUID partitioned drive now.

Did 10.6.2 update do that, or did the NBI 0.8.3 RC4 change the type of drive?
Is there a way to change it back, or do I need to move forward and use gptsync?

Thanks.

Well everything I've read points that it's not possible for a non empty disk to switch the structure type, so I must have been mistaken.
I mucked up the drive playing with disk utilities, so I just reladed OSX only so far. May just leave it that way.

I have tried the same thing, it seems to me that XP is very picky about MBR (The first 512 byte on the drive). As I remembered, Installer process somewhere did modify a few bytes there and make XP hunging at blue screen.
