DMG's won't run after installing dual boot - 11-11-2009, 05:46 AM
We followed mechdrew's instructions for a dual boot.
Advanced 2: Multi-Boot Configuration | Guides | OS X | mechdrew
From the surface, we have a machine that can boot into Win7 and OSX 10.5.6 fine.
But then we tried to run the 10.5.8 combo update from the DMG. It failed. In fact, when we tried to install ANY program from a DMG, no DMG would mount. We even tried to use NBI but it doesn't even see our OSX as a volume. We also booted from the OSX DVD USB stick we created and tried running NBI from there. Still can't see the Dell SSD OSX partition as a volume.
I tried to 'ignore' this problem and proceeded to try and restore my old, working 10.5.8 setup that I had IMG'ed. I booted using a properly configured USB HDD w/ NBI and then did a restore to the Dell SSD OSX parition. Then I used the USB HDD and used NBI from there to 'bless' the Dell OSX partition. It seemed to run fine. But when I rebooted, I got the circle w/ a line through it. Then I tried to run Win 7 and it complained that Win 7 was corrupted. Any ideas how to fix this?
Fortunately, I dd'ed the fresh dual boot install so I can at least return to that point.

I did that the last time I'd switched things around, 10.6.1 on a USB HD to restore a CCC'd img backup of my 10.5.8 disc. Worked just fine.
