![]() At any rate. He informed me that he is planning to do something with fdisk or find an alternative method for NBI to do what it needs without using fdisk. meklort is also busy with a job and school... so we will all have to be patient ![]() Meklort's Blog | NBI Google Code Page | osx.mechdrew.com -- the best OSX installation guides | |

Your and the others' information was so good, that I naively thought I was completely prepared ![]() As clear and informative as your threads and video are (at least all the ones I have found), you left it to others to say step by step how to prepare the USBs so I had to use other sources--above you linked to Mecdrew's use of Mac to prep OSX USB, which I used of course, but I used the more detailed (step by step) directions of how to set up the OSX USB prep portion off this thread in conjunction with the above Mecdrew link, using a 16GB Sandisk. My 10v boots into the USB, loads grey screen with apple and moving pinwheel, but after about 30 seconds merges a halt sign (circle with a line through it) into the grey screen then nothing else appears to happen (did this many times). I know I had to make sure it did not have the "u3?" software still on it so I used "diskpart" in Vista to clear it and repartition/format/activate/and assign drive letter, but not certain if that was acceptable way to remove the issue (since I first posted I realized it was not enough/correct way to remove u3 and have uninstalled it and am in process of trying again but please give any other comments/suggestions); also have legacy enabled and wake from sleep disabled and bluetooth enabled (as I have bluetooth). Also, I used my girlfriends Macbook to prepare the OSX USB, which she purchased about a year and a half ago and the above "more detailed" directions say it has to be a intel-mac...don't know if her's is acceptable mac or if it actually even matters as other threads don't mention "intel" at all. Not at my girlfriends now and I don't own a Mac, so (for kicks and out of impatience) I tried to use Mechdrew's windows only directions for preparing the OSX USB. However, boots into Chameleon v 2.0 RC3-nbi r fine, then I select "Mac OS X Install DVD," it begins to try to access my Sandisk 16GB but then throws up a grey screen saying "panic(cpu caller...unable to find driver for this platform...kernal..debugger called: <panic>...kernal version...Darwin Kernel version 9.6.0..." and "You need to resart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."(with picture of a power button behind it) and then waits for me to reboot. I'm not so worried about this as I absolutely would rather use the procedures you used anyway...just wanted to let you know what I have tried and the symptoms in case it helps with solving hurdles using your directions. Do you see any obvious problems with what I have told you I did when following your/Mechdrew's directions using a Mac to create OSX USB, or maybe more importantly which of all the detailed directions out there using a Mac should I be using? Maybe only use the one you linked to? Thanks. I'm going to keep trying... Thanks for your time and sorry about the length of my post. |

That's usually after multiple attempts of just rebooting to get past that point. Eventually it finally took. The only other thing that may possibly be an issue (I haven't kept up on the threads on it, so I don't know for sure any more) is your BIOS. If you're running A06, that may be an issue. I've only run A04 and A05 (A04 on my original, A05 on my current), and have had minimal issues. I've not done the Windows only directions, at least, not since the days of my Mini 9. Once I had a working OS X install, I'd created my media from there. I hope that helps some.. I haven't used OS X in quite a while now, so I'm rather rusty at the moment. ![]() Cheers! I also am concerned about the BIOS possibly causing issues...will look further into this and possibly run a fix or downgrade. If the fixes don't work right away, I will likely downgrade to A05 so I can eliminate difference between my and your specs--one less variable. What exact process did you use to prepare your OSX USB--the Mechdrew link you listed in your #1 post? I would feel good knowing that the circles I'm causing myself to run in are at least going the right direction. ![]() Also, as an alternative, do you think I could use the process used in your youtube prep for 10v dual-boot video, where you showed how to create OSX USB using Windows and Transmac, etc. (I'm actually trying to implement your triple-boot directions). For the dual-boot, you used the third USB to hold 8.02b1 (which I'm guessing you would substitute with 8.03final now) I might give that a try, unless you think it would ruin my attempt to triple-boot or think it otherwise a bad idea. Thanks again. |

I continue to get stuck after installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Once it is tme to edit the Windows 7 partition using diskpart, I am unable to make partition 2 on dev/sda4 on disk 0 active. I get a message saying "The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The ACTIVE command can on be used on fixed MBR disks." I am also unable to repair the partition because then I get the message saying System Restore cannot be used with this version of windows. I think it has something to do with GPT being used. Any suggestions? |
