As far as the Alfa adapters, I picked mine up off of eBay for around $40. It was worth the cost for what I needed it for.

For Backtrack, v4 has an install icon right on the desktop if you boot into the LiveCD portion of it. For all intents and purposes, it's the installer from Ubuntu visually.

For OS X, I just use Time Machine, but usually all I care about is my data. I'm usually content with rebuilding the OS if I need to.

You can get the Alfa on Amazon for $39 and it comes with a free 9dBi antenna in addition to the stock one. The shipping was $10 which is ridiculous, but eh. The l337 points that come from walking around with a wireless adapter and antenna twice the length of your netbook are worth the price.

Default Thnx, but.. - 11-25-2009, 09:21 PM

Ok. So I followed your guide with these edits:

A. This was on a Gateway 702GE.
B. Mac, Ubuntu, and Windows were on DVD, not USB Sticks.
C. For Mac, it was a distro off the internet.
D. I used Ubuntu Live, not the net book edition
E. I didn't install Chameleon through the OS X DVD Netbook, after installing Windows and Mac I booted into my Mac OS through the DVD since it has a bootloader, then I already had internet access configured, and I downloaded Chameleon from there.

So I can say this: THANK YOU.

This guide..it was so self explanatory, and so easy, and was a great experience!

But I did have one problem. After installing Mac and Windows and Chameleon, I install Ubuntu and it worked fine, all of them showed up in the Chameleon screen, and I booted to Windows and gave me Boot Manager error 0xc0000025. I popped in my Vista DVD, headed to Startup and Repair, repair and reboot, then it said Failed to Save Startup Options and then it scanned for Vista, and found nothing. Then it just goes like that again after reboot. I can boot into Mac and Ubuntu fine, I even tried booting into Windows through GRUB, but nope, still error 0xc0000025.

Can you help me please? Or anyone?

I'm trying this, and testing the "no-grub" theory. I'll let you know if grub is nessecary or not.

For those of you whose linux partition(Ubuntu or Moblin) cant be seen by Chameleon,
*Check for gpt, if you got a wrong partition type for linux partition(just like me, I got EFI system type for linux partition.)
btw, usually in this sutiation, booting from Grub installed in linux partition works fine. ('cause mbr table is fine and active flag setted to linux partition)

*Modify gpt linux partition type to Basic Data Partition(GUID: EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7), now Chameleon should see this linux parition and boot grub bootloader installed inside partition.

I use gdisk command to edit/save gpt. It's easy to use and powerful, you can find it in Gparted Live on USB Key (GParted Live on USB)

grub is only used to boot linux(in my case: moblin v2.1)

Default Ubuntu not seen - 12-12-2009, 05:09 PM

zhchen

Would you mind sharing the commands on how to do what you mentioned above? Sorry that I don't know and the commands....yet!

I have XP/OSX 10.6.1/Ubuntu Live 9.10 remix, and ubuntu is not seen on chameleon. I did have grub bootloader installed, but overwrote it with Chameleon 8.3. rc4

Thanks!

Perhaps a very stupid question, but I had created a fourth partition to be a data partition (FAT32). Using this method OSX created the partition. Both Ubuntu and OSX and see the partition but Windows 7 can not. When I went into the admin functions to find it, all of a sudden Windows started finding the other drives, assigning letters and basically ruining the install. Any advice fo r having a data partition accesible by all three oeprating systemd (prefer NTFS).

Default Failed to Save Startup Options - 12-15-2009, 03:41 PM

Krishna21,

I think I know the answer to this. I recently installed Windows 7 from an SD card, after installing OS X I had the same error. So I put the SD card back into the 10v and did a repair install. It booted back into Windows 7, however, ONLY WITH THE SD CARD PLUGGED IN!!!

It turns out that Windows 7 repair needed to write to the USB install disk in order to do the repair, go figure. I'm wondering if it had anthing to do with the fact that I didn't install Windows 7 on the first partition.

Anyhow, after booting into XP (using Hiren's boot CD for USB drives), I investigated further and found that the Windows 7 Repair actualling changed x:\boot\BCD file on my flash drive. (instead of on the computer's c: Drive)

After getting back into windows (using the Windows 7 installation SD) I fixed the problem with Easy BCD.

While I love both tutorials, I really think that in the end, Easy BCD is the most eligant solution to using a boot menu. It configures the standard Windows boot menu and you can default to any operating system automatically in x number of seconds if you turn on the power button and walk away.

For me, I did this on a desktop computer. SO with OS X I didn't use net book boot maker to install Chameleon.

After installing Ubuntu, I popped in my DVD of OS X which had the Darwin Boot loader, so I put me right into Mac OS X, and I had internet configured. So from there I downloaded my install pkg file for Chameleon without the Net Book Boot maker !

Thanks for the guide.
