Default OSX & W7 - some questions - 10-04-2009, 11:05 AM

Hey people!

I've just orderd a Mini 10v, and now i'am reading the different guides and i'am watching some yt-videos to get myself prepared
My target is to have a 10v with OSX and W7 dual boot. I'll use this guide but there are still some question:

- Which W7 i have to take, there are so many different?! (x64, x86, professional, enterprise, ultimate!).

- I got a snow leopard DVD, can i Install OSX with it or is it just an update for the previous version?

- What does the command "create partition EFI size =200" in diskpart.exe do?

- What is the interest to formate the free space left with ntfs?

And some general questions:

- If Apple one day brings a new update for snow leopard, can i update it normally or do i have to wait for an update of NBM?

- BIOS downgrad - which is the safest method?

I'am sorry, that i have to ask you such newbie questions! Thank you for your help!!

For the Windows 7 edition, you want the 32-bit (x86). As for the other edition type, I'd suggest Home Premium unless you have a need for one of the features in the higher priced editions, in which case Professional or Ultimate is probably appropriate. For example, "XP Mode" is in Professional and higher only.

Yes, you can install Snow Leopard from scratch even with the update DVD, though you are supposed to buy the "Box Set" for a full install.

The diskpart command creates a partition of type EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) which MacOS requires, of size 200MB.

I don't understand your question about NTFS

You can update normally

I would recommend the "DOS" method of installing the BIOS. I know that there is a USB key method for the 9, but I don't know if there's one for the 10v.

If i can update normally, i can install 10.5 and then update via the DVDs?

Do you mean this Dos Method?

I am very new to the OS X world (and, in fact, am temporarily out of it for now), so I can't answer your question on updates with any authority. Ask in one of the OS X sections.

Yes, that DOS method should work.
