Default Dual Boot Win 7 and OSX - Guide - 05-25-2009, 02:37 AM

After untold installs and reinstalls using every guide on the web, I gave up and tried it one more time. This time I tried to just logically attack the disk problem I was having and respond using some of the info I had come across somewhere in my exhaustive search for answers. Many thanks to Sir...

Has anyone installed win7 after already installing OSX?

My OSX install is pretty darn spiffy. I just want to add win7 to it.,

I would assume I'd have to repartition my drive into two. Do you think that'll work?

Yes,you can go into Disc Utility and resize the partitions, but if you only have a single OSX partition you would be better off starting over (IMO). I tried to repartition the drive in terminal and it completely hosed things up...could of been me, but I don't know. Just make a Time Machine backup from your current 'spiffy' OSX install, then follow the guide on how to make a dual boot machine. When you can get to the OSX Disk Utilities during the install, you can choose to restore from your Time Machine image.

Good luck, and if you are happy with your current OSX then think long and hard about doing this, since it is pretty easy to get something messed up and you are left with new installs of both OS's. Make sure you have all your data backed up!

You must use the space bar (as tab) and Enter/Return key (as a click)

Hope this help

Default Install Mac os x on Dell E6400 - boot issue

Hi

I've followed your great guide and got the mac os x installed.
When I tried to boot the mac os x I got this message:
"No keyboard connected"

Is there something I can do to bypass this message and boot?
I did not understand where should I insatll it and how to handle DellEFI.
Do I need to use it with my Dell E6400 machine?
After Mac os x boots I'll see this option in EasyBCD?

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Default advice?

i follow this tutorial until the final windows 7 reboot... when the installation shuts down, it tries to start back up but it hangs at a black screen with a blinking white cursor before booting into windows 7. before, on this same HD and computer, i had run DellEFI and deleted sleep scripts... but since then everything has been formatted in accordance with this guide in order to get things work. i'm stuck where windows 7 won't boot.... any advice??

I have the exact same issue. Everything works flawlessly until the Windows 7 installation completes. The system reboots and a blinking cursor appears. I tried to boot from the Win 7 USB drive and repair startup (doesn't work). I also tried making partition 3 active (doesn't work either). Please help here.
