Default The Dell Streak is an Abusive Spouse - 03-08-2011, 09:58 PM

I've finally moved out, although I can't take all the credit myself.

After 7 months of living with the Streak and all the associated pain, it slipped out of my shirt pocket last night and the screen shattered when it it the floor. It's hard to describe how I was immediately both upset at the loss of a nearly-new device and overwhelmed with relief that our relationship was over.

I've been an avid Android fan since its inception - I got the G1 and held on to it far longer than I should have. When I moved to the Streak I thought I was moving to a great platform with nothing but potential. To use the language I frequently use with my young children, I made a bad choice.

- I can't put into words my frustration stemming from the delayed OS update.

- The fixed landscape orientation

- The frequent lock-ups and reboots

- UI delays and sluggishness

- Incompatibilities with mainstream Android apps

- The Stage UI

- Touchscreen non-responsiveness

All in the past. I went out at lunch today and came back with an HTC Inspire.

- Large screen

- Fast interface

- American "4G"

It's a new day and I feel great about my new phone.

i think u was using older version 1.6

u should try to update it to 2.2 build 12821
i m using streak and i dont have any problem that u mentioned..
i m very very happy with my device and wish to use it longer

although its larger and i hav some small issues with "messages"
but that dosent matter and streak rocks...

my streak
never reboots , has screen rotation 3 sides , responsive touch (thanks to my new update 2.2 build 12821) , very cool market apps etc

updates r necessary dude. all should update thei devices to latest os

He said that he had stage, which implies that he had 2.2.

I have to say that I don't see the issues Derek was having though.

That's AT&Ts fault, not Dells. In any case you can download an update from the community instead.

- The fixed landscape orientation
Eh?? 2.2 isn't fixed in landscape unless you ask for that in the settings.

- The frequent lock-ups and reboots
I reboot rarely.

- UI delays and sluggishness
If they occur, it's usually due to a rogue app hogging cpu. Uninstall it.

- Incompatibilities with mainstream Android apps
I seem to be able to download & run all the apps?

- The Stage UI
You can download whichever UI you prefer.

- Touchscreen non-responsiveness
Either a rogue app hogging CPU or you need to run the screen recalibration.

I bought my Streak 5 with 1.6 a few weeks ago and purposely not updated until I got a good feel of the performance and processing first. Then finally updated to 2.2 and must say, the phone is even better than before!

I am not experiencing any of the issues mentioned above either. No reboots, no sluggish processing, no issues with apps installing. I bet if he had cleared his phone and reinstalled things he might have located which app or so that could have been causing his problems.

All I can say is, "you can talk about my granny but DONTchoo mess with my Streak!"
