it depends on what you use your phone for. For me I love the large screen because I love watching movies on it on the trains and also for web browsing.
The size is not as big as i first thought it would be, although i try to buy shorts and pants with bigger pockets

I've had mine for 7 months and not had a single issue with hardware and since the official 2.2 came out I've had no software problems. In my opinion it is the best smartphone available at the moment, mainly due to the form factor. The screen size makes it really usable for surfing, watching films and as an ebook reader. I have laughed quietly to myself watching iPad users trying to use their devices on crowded commuter trains, sorry Mr Jobs you are wrong 10" is too big. 5" good, 7" best, 10" shouldn't leave the house. I qualify this by saying that as well as my streak I own a Commtiva n700 7" android 2.2 tablet same size as a paperback book (excellent entertainment for all ages).

Regarding the screen being fragile, I have (accidentally) dropped mine from standing height onto bitumen and it landed on one corner and bounced, before landing face down. I picked it up cringing & expecting a shattered, bled LCD. I was surprised to find that not only was the screen intact, but it wasn't even scratched and the only mark on the phone was a tiny dent in the plastic on the corner that first hit the ground. Since then I have managed to drop it on several occasions from different heights onto different surfaces with no damage.
I have always carried it in my side pocket in a 5" TomTom pouch (the only thing I could find to fit it when I first brought the phone) with the screen facing my thigh, that way any impact will be on the back of the phone. Also, I recently bought an Otterbox Impact case for it. It is awesome, makes the phone a bit thicker, but it feels steadier in my hands & now the screen is slightly recessed so I can sit it face down witbout worrying about scratches. Also slides off easily for use with docks or car holders.
Regarding all your other queries, I have been using smartphones for 6 years now and the Streak is by far the best phone I have ever had. I almost never get my laptop out anymore and am typing this response on it with the website @ normal size just like on a PC, no zooming or anything.
It is noticibly faster than a friends Galaxy S and far more flexible than anything running iOS or WP7. 10/10 from me
